Thanks Gary......possibly even a foil type sticker although not critically important as long as they look correct and will even consider vinyl.
Ultimately, although pretty accurate, the minutiae won't be 100% if comparing units side by side but once in the engine bay they'll look the real deal.

Hi Jan,

Jonny's units sound wonderful but I've never actually used them as you'd have to double up for twin plug making them a bit costly.

I currently have a hidden Canems ECU in the Mongrel which after a couple of initial teething issues has been faultless and is also fully programmable. I'll do something similar for this build.

Bunked off work today to visit my engine builder and deliver a few parts.....fortunately he lives in wonderful rural location and going cross-country takes in some of my favourite roads.....express delivery it was then! .....



...the engine has been stripped and needed components inspected whilst the cases have been reamed and shuffle pinned, they'll also be dry ice cleaned and treated....



....slide throttle bodies, Mahle high-comp racing barrels and pistons, Bosch type twin-plug distributor and Carrillo con rods safely delivered, it's just about time to get engine building!

My I ask why having the butterflies above the carb is better? I know for Darren's last build he was very excited by high butterflies too

....sorry Neil, I missed this......assuming you mean throttle bodies rather than carb, being an MFI engine, it's all about power.........Both high butterflies and later slide injection were racing parts that squeezed a little more HP out of the engine so as simple as that really.....plus they look so goddamned sexy in the engine bay!

As I was asked I thought I'd give a quick update on the shell preparation.....

....of late the long-block has been King.....



....Chris is a former work colleague who left to set up his own specialist paint correction and valet business and whilst he builds his customer base he's agreed to paint this car on a part time basis working 2 or 3 days a week......Chris is a very talented guy, he did a fabulous job on Kieron Witt's 2.4E and is super enthusiastic about completing this project to the highest of standards....



....after initially getting the car in epoxy, the underside was tidied as required before a second coat of epoxy and primer....



....with the underside complete he's now working on the laborious process of making the body flawless and flowing.....



...Chris has been in awe of the quality of Barry's work and couldn't believe how little filler the roof needed considering a new panel has been welded in....



....feel, far more than eye, will dictate final shape.....



....and with the off-side pretty much done a second coat of epoxy shows off the lines wonderfully, these photos don't do the work justice...







....Chris will now move onto the near side and then we'll be close to primer and colour, steady progress although that will be a couple of months away.

I'll report back then unless anything exciting happens in the meantime

Good to hear.
I did some man maths for my orange car. It is a mathematical fact that the weight saving on filler leads to impressive fuel savings, such that Barry's fee will have been recouped in a mere 12,440,000 miles. Your Mileage May Vary.
