just out of interest, what diameter torsion bars and ARB bars did they recommend front and rear?
Nice looking bits of kit. Am sticking with my original Konis which i got rebuilt to original specification.

The wiring is coming along. Instrument trial fitting and testing (with tank senders etc) today.
I recommend child labour for this sort of thing. Small hands. Tip: there's no need to actually buy a child (running costs are very high). Just borrow one from your local orphanage or similar.

I'm a bit of a sucker for those pics where the shiny new / refurbished parts are laid out on the floor, ready to fit. Like a giant Tamiya instruction manual.
So I think I shall do a few...

All my suspension bits are now back from refurb (hence the thoughts of such photos).
Slow, but plodding along fine at the moment.

No patience required. Child labour involved and a stick.911hillclimber wrote:Those pre-assembly pics are great, reminds me of how I didn't do mine!

Also this week, I finally got around to choosing an engine builder. So into a van went the engine and gearbox.

This is completely shite project management on my part - the oily bits could obviously have been done ages ago and be waiting to just bolt in. But having chatted with the usual suspects and their customers, plus some left-field choices, I had failed to find an engine builder I was completely happy with.
Actually that's not quite true, a couple of options were plausible, but the pricing was quite far detached from reality. I know parts are expensive, but a standard engine rebuild does not cost 25K GBP, whichever way I calculate it.
Another bit of planning incompetence meant I had to load the engine into the van on my own. Heath Robinson (see trolley jack at rear of van), and I very nearly dropped it, but phew, all OK in the end.

Incidentally I love Transit vans. The 4th year of my university course included a bunch of short projects in industry. They let us loose in a fleet of Transit minibuses. End of the year highlight was a little Euro tour, including Turin - quite sporting on the alpine passes...

I was quoted around that figure too ( over 25k) ,, then another 11k to do the gearbox .............plus vodka and tonic
Obviously I declined so the dealer in question added 45 minutes to my bill to load the engine etc back in my van
When questioned about the extra 45 mins he replied that it was calculated at 4x men working 11 minutes each to help me load it up ......two of those men being my friend paul ,,,and oh yeah ..me

I fully understand the high cost of restoring a shell and all of the hundreds of parts that are finally attached to said shell. There are many hours involved in cleaning, blasting, painting, powder coating, plating etc. However, I have been unable to get my head around some of the engine rebuild costs that are quoted.
