This was an ST I saw at Essen fitted with rain guards under the decklid grille.
It's another solution, more elegant, though probably not as effective at keeping the rain off.

Neil Bainbridge has NOS versions of the correct factory rain covers available if you need them.
As you asked for opinions, have to say my preference for your car would be the standard version for general road use and then open trumpets with the correct rain covers for trackday use, as long as the engine bay is sealed in the right way with a blanking plate in the 'tinware' if necessary, and a seal on the top edge of the rear panel under the lid.
