Hi Kirk,
Agree, if running costs, emissions (and safety) are your main concerns, an old 911 is possibly not the right car for you!
I don't have decent data on unburnt fuel and oil dilution in MFI Porsches. Just anecdotal chats and the usual more general internet stuff, eg:
http://oil-synthetic.com/2017/02/22/fue ... an-engine/
https://www.lubricants.total.com/fuel-d ... nd-effects
The case I'd make is: it's really easy (if you have already paid up for a CDI+ box, as I have) to make the fuel shut off work as Porsche designed it. So why not?
Cheers, Richard.

A tip given to me years ago, when I had an RS-engined rep.....smell the dipstick when checking the oil and if you can smell petrol (you will eventually!) change the oil.

Richard,
You are quite right. If the fuel shut off facility is available then use it. In my case the MFI pump has had it's warm up and fuel cut off removed as I am building a poncy faux ST.
Mick, Thanks for the advice. Looks like I need to start a dipstick sniffers club or an olfactory aroma organisation. Better do the sniffing in private I think. Kirk

If that much petrol gets into the oil on a road car then the rings etc are all ready to be replaced?

And that, in a nutshell, is the kind of mod I'm doing. Criteria:
- Easily reversible
- Makes the car work better (higher performance or more reliable), or look cooler
- Does not change the character of the car. A 2.2S is fine for me. In this case the way it feels (apart from the soft limiter) should be exactly the same as an MFI car on which the CDI, coil, distributor and speed switch are all working perfectly.
- Aesthetically hard to detect, or deliberately different in a way that I think looks better.
.....pretty cool set of rules to live by.
If I was clever like Richard I'd do what he does

If I were rich like Darren I'd have a 2.5 twin spark with RSR-spec MFI, etc
BTW I've massively broken my own rules in the suspension area...
I mention this mainly to annoy Garry. Hello Garry (purist)!

Noooooooo!!!
Richard, you have gone too far this time. The originality police will be around shortly.

They look very nice. Any more details ? Have you strengthened the rear shock mounts to cope with the coil overs ?

They certainly look cool - also interested to hear the spec / what they are etc

Next step will be a 993 engine installation. A bit of tin bashing and it is in. Easily reversed so within the self imposed "rule".

993 engine? Nah, air cooled is dinosaur tech. And obviously I’ll be needing PDK.

Hi both,
Yep, for real, but not quite as offensive as it looks. The pic above, with coilovers at the rear, is from the manufacturer's website. My setup uses torsion bars both ends (on their advice for a "fast road" car).
Entire front struts are brand new, but both ends use standard geometry and fit to standard mounts. So I still claim it's easily reversible. But not stealthy, and I think will somewhat change the character of the car. More in due course when it's in and set up.
This is the kit:
https://www.exe-tc.co.uk/classic-historic
Motivation is pretty simple. I mostly drive on bumpy B roads. And I am not talented or especially quick. I don't need more power than a 2.2S, and I don't need more brakes. I do really like cars where the suspension has been properly fettled (and have massively disliked otherwise good moderns - Audis mainly - where the suspension setup has been awful for my use).
And I wanted to try something new.
So, why not? It's my car! Can revert to Konis if the exe-tc setup turns out to be crap in real life.
Cheers, Richard.

No, not well priced at all. Firmly in the ridiculous extravagance category!
So they had better work....
They did win the WRC for about 10 years on the trot, and Singer have just moved away from Ohlins in favour of them, so should be good.
Very helpful company, happy to tweak if I want changes. They’ve lots of early 911 experience including the Tuthill safari rally cars, and were happy to recommend the full setup (torsion bars, arbs) based on my description of what I wanted to achieve for a road car.
We shall see.
