I've been investigating running with better looking filters than the PMO standard air cleaner/weathershields.
I didn't want to run completely 'open' because I wanted my engine feasting on filtered air.
So I've come up with this....
The start point is the by now familiar 'tea balls'.
And yes, they are tea strainers.
Mine are German (of course). Probably the same source the factory use.

Now the mesh will stop dirt and debris getting in but it won't help with dust.
Therefore I've found some Weber filters that comprise two hexangonal meshes, sandwiching a thin foam filter.
Hopefully it adds an extra level of filtration whilst still allowing an ample ingress of oxygen.

The hexagonal mesh stops anything getting sucked in and the foam shouldn't hinder the air flow too much.

These are Sycip Rain Shields. They're modelled on the R-type factory shields.
I may use these but I might fit rainshields to the underside of the deck lid grille instead.
The black rainshields pictured here evidently will do their job but they do tend to visually cover things back up (though they are not as dominant as the PMO kit).

This shot shows the standard set up first, then secondly the tea balls and finally the third versions adds the rain covers.
Now I confess I don't know whether I'll run like this or if I'll just switch to this set-up for show.
There may be technically good reasons not to attempt to drive like this but I think it looks cool.
What do you think?

I like the tea balls a lot but with the rain we get I would cover and then have open for shows - my 2c.
Also need to keep the snow out
