Heard on the grapevine that Big Ben sized watches have had their day so I've been searching for a vintage time machine of more subtle and elegant proportions.
Not interested in anything that Arthur Negus or Steve McQueen once wore in a film that was not worth watching, or anything that celebrates the first sputnik carrying Yuri Gagarins dog and mother in law into space.
Never much liked the Del Boy image of a shiny vulgar gold bracelet Bolex but this has caught my eye. Trouble is the face has been repainted.
Please advise if this is a serious investment or just a bit Mickey M-----

I saw these guys mentions in Octane - just spent a while browsing the site
http://www.projectxdesigns.com/
Not for everyone but I quite like the idea of something unique - perhaps the crystal back
On another note - Jason please could you PM me details of the guy that looks after your watches - I could do with my hands having their luminous stuff re-done - at the moment they are too white and they aren't luminous - at night all I can see is a circle of dots, which is pretty but doesn't tell me what time it is.

Steve Burrage has always done smaller fixes and repairs for me.

Never asked him about reluming hands but if you give him a ring and mention my name he's very helpful.

Tom Bolt at http://www.thewatchguru.com has been doing that for years -adding the PVD coating- and the Rolex factory has made limited editions or added logo's such as the Saudi Royal shield, Bamford &sons, Peruvian Airforce or Tiffany &Co on the watch face basically since they started.sladey wrote:http://www.projectxdesigns.com/
And that is my problem, really. Every Tom Dick and Harry, who "made a bit of a deal", buys themselves a Rolex. In order to have something that sets you apart, you have to start looking. Hence the vintage movement. But then you went to a prep school and you notice during a reunion that 75% of your classmates had the same idea. Bugger!
Anyhow, the "uniqueness" of the guys that Mark mentions smacks a bit like the Rinspeed R69 to me.

Unique? -For sure. Want it? -I don't get moist from it.

That's the baby....been on my "dream list" for a while, and as it's my 40th at the end of this month it's getting nearer the top of my list of things to buy! Trying to justify it as I may be about to embark on a big extension at home, so faffing a bit...

i think the GMT is slightly larger than the standard chrono - you should find one for around £1500-£1800.
I sold my standard chrono for £1200 not long back (ok it was an absolute bargain) as it was just a tad small for me at 39mm
