I went out for a drive yesterday late afternoon, it was sunny and I was the only car on the road. Perfect driving conditions but eerie.

Thanks to Ian Gunney for coming up with a pair of European-spec indicator housings for the 914 - spent an hour or so yesterday swapping things over and finally got rid of cobbled together modified US-spec unit.s Cheers Ian!

Drained the high octane fuel out of the Lola today for the lawn mower.

About sums-up the motorsport predicament.

MS uk have pulled permits until the end of June now wiping out 4 major events.
Doubting Silverstone Classic will run now.

Started to fit reel belts in the 72 car I modified some later trim panels moving the slot back and got them retrimed will try and refit parcel shelf and rear seats tomorrow

Love the book shelf brackets!

At the Swap Meet I was asking Winston for his advice on getting my 6v 356 to charge better. He said clean and double clean all the contacts. Plus change the braided exposed metal battery earth wire for a cable as they conduct better. I did and noticed that some of the washers had been waxoyled to cleaned them. I will not be able to do a proper test until the car is running again.

New cable cost £6 off eBay and is rated at 270amps

So this is one of those jobs that never got done, mostly because I was quite happy in my BF Torino buckets. But with more time at home I decided to tackle this in the evening.


It started with a good, if tired, original 1968 Recaro comfort seat. Padding was a little compacted and the cord in the base had been cut and a big piece of foam inserted to allow the elderly, original owner to sit higher



I took it all apart, cleaned the covers, repaired the hessian on the rear of the base cover, added in some new padding where required. Finally I fitted a new cord to tie the base down correctly. Added a head rest that I procured some years ago and voila.
