Checked the 964 over for MOT test cleaned out washer jets and all A1 will tax shortly!

got them from ebay, as a lot, together with other REPA seat belt fittings, but i have seen them in various stores such as Sierra Madre, stobbard etc.

Checked the targa over for MOT test replaced rear no plate bulb and took for test all good

Pulled the LSD out of the 996 GT3 as it requires a rebuild.
These water cooled cars are a real pain to get on axle stands.

Does it need the gearbox to be taken out or can you get it out with the box in place?

You can get it out with the engine and gearbox in place. It’s a bit of a wrestling match put possible.

So I split my GT3 LSD today to rebuild it with up rated Belville washers. The issue with these LSD’s is that they had very little pre load from the factory. The workshop manual states 5 to 15 Nm. Once the clutch plates wear a little you loose most of the pre load resulting in effectively an open diff. The break off torque on my diff was 2Nm. I could spin it with my hand.

The uprated Belville washers are thicker and the conical part is more pronounced.










All parts were then cleaned and laid out.







I’ve now reassemble the diff and the break off torque is 50Nm which is much better. Guard Transmissions sell a clutch kit which has a pre load break off torque of 60Nm so the car should be fine with this level of pre load in the diff.

You can buy a new updated clutch plate kit off Guard Transmissions in the USA but it’s expensive at £1500 plus fitting. I’ve been told that their is usually plenty of life left in the original clutch plates it’s just that it requires more pre load. So hopefully I should have a working LSD for £300 instead of £1500.

Finally bought new rubber, compromised on the size to get affordable solution but with a 2.2T it is over shod with 7’s and 8’s anyway. New rubber will work much better regardless . Now to use it lots ...
