You can have two point lap belts but I think 3 point are far safer. I'm planning on fitting the latter. Quickfit SBS in Stanmore are supposed to be very good and can easily sort out whichever option you prefer.

I am having 3 point seat belts installed in my 2.4E - and I had mounting points added for them during the metal work stage. They are safer than the lap belt option and as this car will be a daily/regular driver I felt more comfortable with this . On my S I've just had lap belts installed - as the mounting points were already there and I didn't want to drill into the metal. I had them installed by Autofarm and I'm pleased with the look. I don't think that 3 point belts were an option - hence the need for mounting points to be added (but I may be wrong on this)

Belts re-made by Dave (stretch) using my original catches and new webbing in correct orange trace pattern.

Let's be honest - an early 911 is a death trap compared with a modern car. I think 2-point vs 3-point rear belts are only going to make a small difference to that. If I want to be safe, it's the BMW for me.
Passive safety is one area where the state of the art has moved on beyond recognition since the seventies. The Euro NCAP folks recently released this 20th anniversary video comparing a 1997 Rover 100 and today's Honda Jazz, quite interesting:

I like to bear this stuff in mind (plus my knowledge of the driving skills of my various Range Rover driving neighbours), especially when I have children in the car.

I take my kids out regularly in my 911E and wouldn't take them with a lap belt only. Quickfit SBS did my 3 point belts and they were very good.

It's not always the big accidents, but even the little bumps. Kids in the back and 3 point will make a difference over 2 point in the event of even a little bump ... You don't really want their bodies snapping forward as the y would without a shoulder restraint . I know my wife would never let me take the kids in the back without 3 points .. This is probabally the biggest factor in wether to fit 3 points

With the bigger picture of car safety, it is what it is and yes for day to day duties a modern car is the choice ( the reason I put my wife in a new 5 series for her 20k miles per year school run) , but that doesn't mean you can't take the kids out in an old car on a sunny Sunday .... In these situations it doesn't mean we can't give that little bit of extra protection of 3 points in the rear.

Saying that, my eldest daughter has now got to the point where her head is in contact with the rear window when she's sat in the back which does kind of draw a line regarding safety

Adam, if no belt mounts in the rear shelf, you drill then use spreader plates. You'll be wanting inertia real belts in the rear.

I have inertia 3 points in the back of mine and original fixed 3 points in the front

Come to think of it I have never taken my kids in the back of a 911 with lap belts. And probably never will - my 69 car doesn't have rear seats, so my favourite child gets the front (with race harnesses). And by the time my 70 car is finished they will be too big to fit in the back...

Thanks for info guys always great to get a balanced view on here. Barry and I did 'skirt' around the subject at one point, but my fault, I forgot to confirm.... oops My kids are nearly 12 now anyway so probably too big for anything other than a short journey, will go for 3 point. With a GT3 and a discovery commercial I imagine The family will think I'm telling them something, so gotta fit them on principal

911's are surprisingly good at surviving accidents....

Can anyone assist please, it appears that I'm missing the 'front axel protective plate' i.e. The undertray that protects the steering rack. You can buy lhd ones which is no good as my car rhd. I'm happy to purchase one in any condition as if poor condition it can be used as a template as Barry has offered to fabricate one. Failing that does anyone have one which I can hire/borrow for Barry to use as a template please..?

I can loan you a scruffy one Adam. I wonder if Barry would make a couple as I need one too.
I can send direct to Barry if required.

And back on it's wheels can't get my head round how much time and money has gone into reaching this point!! Really excited as once clocks are in and rear glass is sorted it will be ready to take to Redline to start up the motor ready for MOT

That rear window seal is awful ... Is it a genuine one ?
