im not sure on the extent of the sound proofing? I covered the floors and rear so far.... should it extend to the rear inner arches too as imagine lots of road noise coming from there??

Personally I would having come so far, but I think Darren did the sides on his orange hot rod, so he will have a real-world opinion?

Only the floors had sound pads (so to speak) originally, the rear shelf, sides etc have different fit-in sound proofing under the carpet.

My orange car is no reference vehicle.....I fitted sound pads on the rear shelf and sides as a token gesture towards sound proofing as I have no underseal, none of the original sound proofing and very thin carpet.

Yeah I have the original soundproofing to go under the carpet too. Plan on using this as a daily driver and taking the wife away on occasions. Clearly I also want to keep it original too...just thought it would be on inner wings originally due to road noise?

Just looked at the restoration pics I took when I re-built my 73T in '89.
Rear seat bases and side inner wings all free of sound deadening sheet because there is a very large and very heavy moulded blanket on the stock build and the carpets etc sit on that.
I took mine out due to weight (hill climb car) and still have it in the attic.
Without such deadening the car is noisy. My then very young daughter used to sit in the back with ear defenders on...

I would deaden the car to an inch of it's life if my wife was a regular passenger...

Here you go Adam...

The original sound deadening only went on the front bulkhead and floor with three strips on the roof as follows, these were originally fitted prior to final paint.....





...the rear shelf has a large mat and there's a heavy duty molded pad that fits in the rear seats section, the side arch sections had a traingular shaped cord lined matting material stuck over them, I do have all the original items but no photos I'm afraid.

No harm in doing the rear bulkhead as you have which will certainly help with noise and you may as well go over the arches too......the material you're using is pretty thin and molds well so think you'll be fine finishing off the sides.

When I stripped the shell it was everywhere! Inner sills, rear arches, rear seats, parcel shelf, the lot, clearly not factory then

Hi Adam - I checked what is listed in PET for roof soundproofing and for a Coupe you need 15,16 & 17. Nothing listed specifically for a sunroofed car so assume you trim to fit ?...

.....nothing particularly scientific about roof soundproofing, just three thin strips of soundproof material with some thin foam stuck over the top.....here's Richard original....

....I don't think sunroof cars had anything at all other than some foam stuck on the roof just behind the inner sunroof skin.....I do still have an untouched original inner sunroof skin in storage so can check if anyone requires confirmation?

Adam - here's my roof sound proofing, which I also believe to be factory original.
I don't think they were very careful about where the strips went... if you want to be authentic, maybe have a beer or two first, then put on a blindfold and throw the pads at the roof:

Being RHD, mine is optimised to be quieter on the driver's side .
I'm reminded of that factory picture where the Porsche assembly line worker has a head injury and there are beer bottles on the window sill. Wonder if I can find it again.
