The period photos you used I have come across before, but not exactly sure on what year they are from, but the good news for me and the car I am theming is they are narrow bodied - and further information or links greatly appreciated.

Nice work with the graphics application.

Ian, the top photo was - as Tom explains - of the 1970 model.
The second picture appeared in Christophorus in 1968.
Lastly, the third image is from a factory 2.2 brochure (1971).

Well, I've been driving the car recently despite the weather.
It's not icy any more and therefore I've had great fun today getting some cross country miles ticked off. Yes, there is still salt on the roads and yes, I do hose it down after any drives through conditions like that but I'm keen to get some running in miles covered and get nearer being able to use all the revs. For the moment the redline's an arbritary 5,000rpm-ish.
OK, I've only put a couple of hundred miles on the car but here's some insight into what the car is like. As a benchmark I'll try and compare the car to my standard 2.4S as it's a car many of us can relate too.

Firstly handling & road holding.
It's really, really good. Much improved over a normal seventies 911 road car.
The car rides firm but not overly hard. You can tell if you're on a poorly surfaced road because it will bump and rattle a bit and let you know but on most roads it's lovely. On a track it will be superb. The car feels 'planted' and safe. There's no roll, no lurching, it has a very solid stance and doesn't get unsettled. The tyres really grip and I'm certainly nowhere near their limits in these wet conditions. I think I'm going to be a big fan of the Michelins. The rubber compound they are made from is very soft. I swear they're wearing out already.
The car/shell feels much stiffer than standard and some of that may just be my poor perception coupled with the firmer suspension but I think the work done by Early911 certainly does show. Don't forget the car had extra seam welding, reinforcing plates & brackets, front strut brace, shock tower bracings & hoop (with diagonal) roll bar etc, etc. They all add up and make a marked difference.
In fairness you do hear all the suspension working. It's noisier in the cabin (discounting the engine noise - which we'll come to later), you can literally feel the suspension working. You really get a sense and awareness of all the forces fed into the shell. And very nice it is too - no complaints - it's all the senses missing from a modern car, amplified and fed back to you to enhance the driving experience. The Bilsteins/Eibachs are lovely. So far I can't see any need for Nick to change the spring rates.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the handling.
