Tom I am sure you will get as much pleasure from your watch case as I have from my car.

I think the sheer variety of work needed on my car has been the most enjoyable part. You can be rebuilding the obvious mechanical parts one minuet then stitching a steering wheel then making brake pipes the next trying your hand at trimming the interiour.

Mike it looks like it will be your and Brendan's turn next.

Just had a look at the calendar and I am back at work on Wednesday and only 2 more field breaks until le mans. That means i have 6 weeks to finish it. I had better get my skates on.

Tried to start the car today! I have fitted new torsion bars as one of the original bars was very soft on one side, so suspension off, fit new bars, set spring plates, refit all the arms and shock absorbers. Fit drive shafts, find that I can’t, shock absorber in the way, take off shock absorber fit drive shafts. Fit the oil tank, fit all of the oil lines, fill up with oil, go to the garage get some fuel, put fuel in the tank, turn on ignition, fuel pump buzzes away, look under car, and the fuel pump is dropping its guts all over the floor.

Well I pulled the pump and stripped it.



Inside of the pump, made up of metal rollers.



Top works you can see where the O ring fits.



You can see the pin that drives the pump.



The pin fits into the rotor.



The pin is worn



So I turned it around.



Both O rings were very flat so I have ordered some new ones, either VITON or NITRILE are fine with petrol. I am hoping that the shaft seal is ok other wise I will have to split the pump.

Just thought this may be of interest, I am hoping the new seals will fix the pump otherwise its going to be £500 for a new one.
