Lovely stuff, good to see those tricky areas getting closed up and one step closer to paint!

Great progress Mike :)

Will all the welding be done when on a jig?

Cheers,

I asked Paul to spray the underseal on the inner rear quarters and quarters before fitting as I think it would be more difficult to spray the higher parts with them attached. Trying to get the texture is not easy.

This is the original pattern, which was taken from an original panel that was removed and not sand blasted.

Image

This is Pauls version, and I am very happy with this finish.

Image

To get the grey colour the original panel was taken down to the paint shop with the top coat of paint removed showing just the original grey underseal. The paint shop scanned the colour and mixed the paint. Paul applied the underseal and then did a top coat in the grey. As it's a 73 the body colour will be sprayed over the top.

And a new tube for the bonnet pull was welded in.

Paul noticed a floor in rear 1/4 at the bottom where it kicks out a little. Other side is fine

In with the new

I have asked Paul to replace the bonnet rubber fixing strip from my old panel as it has the correct holes, as they are missing on this repro panel.

Paul needs to weld captive nuts in where battery straps screw into, the panels for some reason only come with holes.

We also need to work out about other holes on this panel, that I have posted in another thread. Not sure if 1 is missing or another one needs adding.
