That lid was rough.
Mine needed some tlc, and was tempted to buy new, £650 ish, but sorted it our, was nowhere near as rough as yours.
What gauge or thickness steel did you use, I only have 1mm so used that.

Great to see you reworking the panels and not buying new.

Welding always causes shrinking, so only address the weld by stretching, the peripheral warping will disappear if you do this right.

To learn proper coachbuilding I like to play a bit with aluminium, so when I've got some free time, I do a project just for the challenge & learn along the way, so no pressure.

This front wing might not go on the car as I want to keep it as original as possible, it was fun at times, but not completely...

I used an original wing as a pattern, took a paper tracing of this section, then proceeded to wheel & manipulate it into shape, so it touches the original wing everywhere



Repeat this with all the sections







Once I was happy with the fit, I assembled them all together on the old wing for scribing each section before cutting, then welding..



This is how it looks after welding & during the metal finishing stage, the blue dye helps me see the highs & lows in the panel, many hours are spent on this stage blending all the shapes together....



After all the joins are smooth you get one of these, probably hang it on the wall as a talking point,,,

And then some - awesome stuff. Would love to have a go with aluminium and a wheel - but not got TIG/gas welding ability yet either. One for the future....

That's an idea, do a digital rendition of a rusty one, outlaw styley

I can let you have a proper shitted out rusty one without the need for a wrap - "keepin' it real"
