Pretty much completed front end ,,,,,,,now just the other stuff for me to repair

Rear seat area ,parcel shelf , floors , windscreen pillars ,,the list goes on although this was/still is a pretty sound texas import

Holy crap - just caught up with this - that is an absolute shocker of an experience - what a complete twat. So glad you got someone to love the car and lavish skills on it. Hopefully you're starting to lose the pain now. I think the worst thing about that sort of stuff is you feel really stupid, when infact you're the victim in this.

I had similar issues with people claiming they could do stuff on my car (when I first got it and knew nothing) and they ended up doing really dangerous stuff like putting SWB brake lines on the back - which came loose and meant I lost all brakes....that kind of stuff.

So glad you're posting this - it's all part of the collective knowledge - and yes, there are some fab professional restos on here, but secretly I think we all love the DIY ones most - there's something primal about being able to bend metal and heat and sprayguns to your will. I wish I could....

I hope Cunthorpe Man sees this and knows that everyone is wishing bad things on him. Tonight I will be praying to Our Lord the Saviour that his shop burns down, his wife leaves him, and his nob shrivels up and drops off.

Good work on getting it sorted. Seens Autofarm straighten a very mangled car - previous owner of the business but probably the same crew and on the same jig. It came out nice.

And don't worry about people criticising your work. Lots of DIYers on here. No-one is going to slag you off, and there's lots of knowledge available if you get stuck.

The MGA looks fantastic.

I think scunthorpe man has already paid quite a bit ........ let me explain

If my Mrs was a car ,she would be somewhere towards the Ferrari Dino end of the market (in my eyes of course)...His is a yugo zastava type model....Mine would let me do pretty much anything I like and still have a smile ,,including let me assemble my mga in the kitchen last year with log burner for company ...well it was too cold in my garage ...

I don't know if his nob has shrivelled up,,but I do need he needs to grow some balls as he told me he would love a classic car ,but Mrs yugo zastava wouldn't let him

Yeah I did feel stupid as I should have done things differently ..and it was a lot of money to lose

I was lucky to find Chesterton and that they were able and willing to save my inner wing and front partition ..they are og porsche and it would be a shame to have lost them to the skip

Thanks , yeah it was awesome of them,but I explained how silly I felt and how much Mr scunthorpe had taken from my bank ,,..

They're a good bunch of guys ,,just normal guys so they understood !

It's one thing fitting a new inner wing out of the box....but to unpick carefully,,repair and refit is a much bigger challenge

Thanks for laying your soul bare but as others have said you will only get help and sympathy here. Many of us have made similar mistakes and it's only through a forum like ddk and experiences like yours told openly that we can find the best services and personnel to do each job correctly to keep our cars on top form. It funny, but your story takes us to a workshop which has been gaining an excellent reputation for 911 bodywork.

Now that you have found ddk perhaps you will be able to complete other jobs on your 911 taking advice before work commences thus avoiding any more disasters.

I would like to say I'm very happy with Chesterton ,,they took great care to make my car look as original as possible and everyone who has seen it in the flesh has commented on the excellent work ,,this isn't an advert for them,,I'm sure there are lots of good repairers ..I'm just saying that in the circumstances I couldn't have found a more helpful bunch

Great rescue from the evil welder to the sublime body men.
Good details and some interesting clamping in there as things are straightened and come together.
Not doing the budget much good I'm sure, but a great base to work from soon.
Door gaps I would die for!

A few years ago I got turned over to a much lesser but equally frustrating level by 2 specialists in this 911 world, both held in mega esteem on DDK, but I had some bad luck.

Mike Bainbridge sorted the duff engine machining and gearbox machining out with an attitude I think equal to you and Chesterton.
Can't rate Mike high enough.

I hope you will DIY the rest of the car, but however you proceed it will be interesting.
