Took my final trip up to Chestertons today to see the final stages of my cars final fit up before it gets transported to the paint shop next week. There are still a few final bits and pieces to finish off next week but I am glad to say she is finally resembling a car again. A few gaps need some final fettling but in the main all lead work is more or less done, just a final back date of the fuel tank and fitting of the window frames before she makes her way for painting.

I mentioned in an earlier post that my original fuel tank was beyond saving and that we were in the process of modifying and back dating a Dansk swb tank. The final modifications were for John to fabricate a small curved piece of steel which will ensure we have a fully rounded sombrero....

Rear parcel shelf eye bolt mounting points now in place in readiness for 3 point harnesses. Also a lot of work was required to make the inner rear cabin area good following removal of the roll cage which was a pig to remove

That's very nice, Mark. I saw your car before work started. What a transformation! I like the seat belt anchor point fitted to the rear parcel shelf and am considering using the same. Looking forward to seeing the paint process.
Kind regards
Gitesh

Wow. Perseverance pays!

Fantastic result. I'm also realising that she will suddenly become much better than that other Aga Blue Icon and DDK pin up 67 911S : "Livvy", (Ex PMJT's)

You know, when Phil was selling her, he offered her to me and I went down to see him. He kindly put me onto the insurance and we went for a good drive. Its still one of THE great drives and when I took the wheel, it was as if I fitted into a comfortable brogue.

I wish I didn't blow 40k on a wedding that lasted 1 year and 362 days.

Anyway.

I keep following the restoration!!!

That depends. The one thing you can't buy with any restoration is originality.

Livvy is one of only two right hand drive 67S's that I know of which have not had, or will need, some major restoration (apart from her sunroof delete) and to some that is priceless.

Mike

Ps, that was a long wedding Bert

I mentioned at the start of this thread that one of my aims was to ensure that the interior of the car is restored, in a way that, as much originality is put back into the cabin as possible.
When your starting with a car with little or no original interior you can imagine this was always going to be a challenge for a 67S; especially when many of the interior parts are one year only.
Over the last couple of years I have had many a late night scouring the internet for many of these parts, after nearly 2 yrs of hunting parts I am happy to say I have been able to get hold of every single piece that was missing on my car, and most importantly the majority are in great original condition so the interior will have an authentic original feel to it.
I will be posting a few updates over the coming months focussing on the interior, to start with I thought it would be best to start with the items that were in the car when I purchased it. The original dash and gauges were really the only original interios pieces which had been retained by the previous owner.

Objective for the dash was to remove the original black vinyl and repair and re skin using the original vinly. I know this is probably not to many peoples taste, as when the majority of people start off with a full restoration most are completed with brand new interiors.
After a fair few calls and speaking to various DDK members I went over to Garry Halls place (visualfx). Now I had seen Garry’s work on a few ddk members cars, so I was pretty sure I was taking my interios to the right place, also Garry is restoring another 67S RHD so after spending an hour or two chatting about all things 911 and swb I new I had left my dash in more than capable hands
A few pictures of the dash, clearly shows a few battle scars and that whitish milky faded colour to the vinyl,

These swb early dashes are pretty fragile, they are manufactured from a plastic type material which when warmed is pliable to a degree, It was quite evident looking at the under side of the dash what may be lurking under the vinyl. Once the vinly had been removed this is what Garry was left with.

And the worst pictures:

These pictures are what appeared on my mobile from Garry earlier this week, I had prepared myself for worst after he asked me to give him a call to discuss……….
Was relieved to hear from Garry that it was still salvageable……..

So after a few hours fibreglass repairs followed by covering the two section of the dash in a thin black fibre material (sure garry will step in and provide the correct term for this...), this is what we ended up with:

And a few pictures of the dash with the original vinyl re-fitted, cleaned and polished:

The other original interior items that came with the car were the gauges
From numerous restoration threads I have come across both in the US and UK one of the recommended shops to use is north Hollywood speedo, so the gauges were shipped to the states with the goal of having them sympathetically restored.
So after speaking to Ralph we proceeded with the following:
Full mechanical service of all gauges
Not to reface the gauges or to paint the pointers
Polish existing bezels, and replace cracked bezel with similar
Clean glass
Preserve date stamps & clear coat

I think they came out pretty well and not over restored....

I must say that’s the worse dash core I’ve ever seen and thought looking at the pieces “these people are mad” but from my own car understand the importance of keeping the original and preserving….

During the last conversation with Mark before trimming the original vinyl back to our repaired core I asked “shall I apply a thin layer of foam to get rid all that cellulite on the binnacle?” no was the answer I like patina :P

So be it
