Just noticed i didnt post the link for the manifolds.

http://www.dellorto.co.uk/product-categ ... fold-kits/

Have you still got points or are you going electronic ignition - that will affect the coil you should go for.

I got a Carter P4070 pump from the states that doesnt need a regulator like this

Marv thanks, Ive spotted some of the bits I need on there.

RE the fuel lines. Am I right in thinking Id need 8mm plastic fuel line for the centre tunnel? What dia braided fuel line do I need, Ive seen some dias that say 7mm high pressure but I suspect thats for FI.

Theres also a set up with a return feed form the second carb through another regulator back to the tank again. It probably makes sense to do this as its all in bits.

Ill have a look at the dizzy later this arvo.

thanks
Andrew

You don't need a return line for the carbs, but if you wanted to put one in I have seen it done before.

My pipes are metal from the front into the engine bay. I think they are then 8mm in the engine bay (not braided though as it hides any deterioration that might happen to the pipes over time)

Dizzy has points. Not sure which one it is... does it make a difference to the coil?

All i know is that you need to use coils with lower resistance when you use the electronic ignition. So just use a standard coil with points.

Quick question re the fuel tank.

I dont need a return line to the tank, just one feed from it. What would folk recommend to do about the hole left in the tank?

Is there a screw on blank and fibre washer I could fit? or is it best to fit the metal pipe with some line from it with a clamp?

Also I couldn't seem to get the correct fibre washers, does anyone know the size so I can locate a source thats not 914 related?

thanks

Andrew

I think I put a piece of fuel pipe on the redundant tank pipe with a fuel pipe clip on it and then pushed a bolt up the other end of the fuel pipe and used another pipe clip to hold the bolt in place and block the pipe off.

Thanks. Might be easier than trying to source a suitable cap with the right thread depth etc etc.

When I first built my car Andrew I used 8mm copper tube down the centre tunnel for the fuel lines,

thanks I think Ill use copper pipe as well for the centre tunnel.

Just ordered a power spark coil to go with the power spark ignition bits I have and a FF015 fuel pump.

What sort of flange did you put on the copper line? A bubble like the brake lines?

thanks

Just out of interest what dizzy have you got? I've got a 009 but have been struggling to get mine running well recently

I was told the 050 is the one to have with a type 4 on carbs

Yes 050 has the best advance curve for the type IV
VW Heritage do a 009 with an 050 advance curve which is the best of both worlds for an off the shelf dizzy. All centrifugal dizzy's will have a small "flat spot" which can be ironed out by adjusting the accelerator pump on the carbs. You wont get rid of it entirely but that's the yin & yang of going centrifugal from vacuum.
Stuart, as long as you have your timing set, (points & dwell set if you have them) and the weights are lubricated in the centrifugal advance, there's little else you can do, the rough running might just be the carbs.

I suspect it might be my coil Darren. I think I have the largest incorrect type for electronic ignition. I did have a vac advance distributor on there and had the same issue so an going to spend the writer going through the whole ignition to try and find the culprit. The symptoms I have are misfiring over 3k revs
