I did the same at the rear with some 3M tape. Under that plate is the original plate - painted on the car, as it is on the front. Keeps the history.
I've gone for black fablon and white stick on numbers of the correct size from the local hardware store.
as I've no bumpers fitted I've no where to attach a "proper" plate.
