Thought I'd update this thread as it's been a while!

I'm still loving this 912 and so far (touch wood) it's proving to have been a cracking buy. While it's not got the best paint job ever - it's totally presentable and mechanically there have been no total horror stories yet!
Most of the changes I've been making have been cosmetic and all "reversible" things just to try and make the car my own and a little bit different.

First off (mentioned in another thread) I fitted some LED headlights - none of this $1000 a set stuff that's being named around on other forums - just bought some 7inch led units and fitted them to existing housings.




Fitted up some NOS Talbot mirrors - had to fabricate some brackets so they would fit in the original mirror mounting holes without having to re-drill etc.... so once again - easily reversible.




Tracked down a nicely priced Nardi wood rim and fitted that for a change


Got one of Chris from Fennlane's new throttle pedals. Nice bit of kit.

re-painted the black insert in the decklid and whilst the original one was out - fitted some black mesh for something a bit different. Quite like the look for something a bit different - and as always - easy to put back to original





Seeing as Porsche seemed to pretty much forget the 50th Anniversary of the 912 - I drew up and made some anniversary stickers and a brumous style Year of Manufacture sticker. Available on my website if anyone else would like one http://www.aircooledapparel.com

When I first got the car (see page 1) it came on the original steelies.
Then I got some report Flat 4 Deep 6 fuchs for the rear and 5.5 inch SSP fuchs for the front. Love these wheels and always wanted Fuchs on a car.
But about a year ago I managed to acquire 4 of the space saver steelies that were used on the 911. They are virtually identical to the original 912 steels save from a couple of little differences - the best bit was I don't think I paid more than £25 for each one. I then had two of them banded to 6 inch.
I then restored them and re-painted and put them in the garage!

Thought I'd bring them out of hibernation and run them for a bit without hubcaps.

My Blaupunkt purchased from Chrome London last year had run out of warranty and subsequently packed up.
Nothing ventured nothing gained etc..... so I removed it - took it to bits to see if I could work out what was wrong with it and it turned out that the solder connecting the volume knob bit to the PCB had cracked and subsequently wan't making a decent contact. So broke the soldering iron out and hey presto - it works again

Another flukey eBay purchase was a pair of knackered early swab handles. Nice and rusty with missing studs so got it all rubbed down etc... new studs fitted and for the time being going to run them as they are with a bit of satin clear coat on them to help protect the "pseudo brushed" finish.




Engine wise I've just been playing and playing (and then some more playing) - with the original solex carbs.
I've been determined to get these running right and not fit webbers as so many people seem to - and thankfully I think after about 5 tear downs of them I've finally go them sorted. (Along with trying a variety of different distributors - 022, 031 and 123-Ignition.
The best combination seems to have been the 031 - now with no flat spots and decent acceleration off the line. The thing that proved the most difficult to sort out was the float level and accelerator pump volume - and after much research (mainly on the 356 forum) turns out that the "factory" pump volumes are now way too much for modern fuels.





Also managed to source an original 912 dealer workshop manual.






Other than that - I've mainly just been enjoying this wonderful car with this little dude who loves the car almost as much as I do! Good Times!

As for Stanford - not sure mate. I don't tend to go to many shows and try and spend weekends with family etc... And I'm not booked in for the line up. Not sure if too late now.
