Hi Jos. I insured a US-registered motorcycle with Geiko. That was a few years ago. There was a small premium for being a foreigner, but it wasn't much.

Loving this build. The road trip will be fuggin epic. Make it happen!

The car is looking great Jos! I bet you can't wait to jump in and drive it, and what a trip it will be!!

Thanks for the kind comments, as I haven't ever actually seen the car its reassuring when others get what I'm trying to do. I spent about 30 minutes last night explaining to my loving wife the different options for painting the floor pan and whether to have the wheel arches blackened etc and even I was getting bored...

I spent an hour last night reading Judes post, it was totally inspiring and made me feel quite excited about the road trip I am planning. Her enthusiasm really rubs off. I could also relate to the later in life Porsche attraction as my first car circa 1989 was a VW Beetle, red 69', 1500cc, affectionately known as 'Dirty Gerty'. She is still missed.

Anyway I received some more photos from Troy and am pleased to say we have paint! (well sort of, epoxy primer really...)

From what I understand the AC condensor was fitted inside the smugglers box as an aftermarket add on. I couldn't imagine ever wanting or using AC so we had already removed most of the set up, but have now taken out he main unit so we can repair the bodywork prior to painting. It had a little bit of rust where the holes had been made so seemed like the best way forward. Obviously I haven't even seen the thing so have to assume this is the best way forward? Theres a great deal of trust going on and so far these guys have really earned it!

Like everyone else here I wasn't born knowing everything about Porsches and most of the forum members have probably forgotten more than I know but I'm spending a great deal of time trying to learn and pick up as much info as I can. It would be nice just to pop into the garage and have a look at the real thing so I can put two and two together...

Here are pics of the smugglers box with and then without the condenser (I believe!)

Below the dash there looks like air vents running along the bottom of either side with some controls. Does anyone know if thats unique for AC or just for general heating and cooling?

Typing this I can imagine a few raised eyebrows at how little I do know, so please bear with me! Any info gratefully received.

Those extra vents are just for ac

The car is now ready for undercoating. We've had lots of interesting discussions around the factory finish and despite an earlier post I now want to go original with black painted wheel wells, black under sills. From what I understand Wurth don't make the same stuff anymore so Troy and Eric have been busy finding a similar product that will give the same bumpy look. Should be arriving sometime soon.

Smugglers box sheet metal will be here Wednesday. The best metal comes from... another Porsche

Ok, ok, I have to thank Eric who obviously has such a great working relationship with Harvey Weidman my wheels were refinished in a matter of months not years! Looking at the photos I can see why he has such a good reputation.
