DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

This is the first early 911 I have owned, so the feel and the noise of the car was a bit of an unknown. Some advice and over the forum diagnosis by Mike (210HP) and it would appear all was not well. I organised to have the gearbox stripped out locally at my independent (full service was needed and he replaced part of the clutch while he was in that far). The gearbox was then sent to Mike Bainbridge for diagnosis. It would appear the CWP was shot along with a whole host of other components. The end result a fairly extensive rebuild and excellent upgrade to the later stronger diff carrier. The turnaround and service from Mike was top class. The car is now back running perfectly with no angry mechanical sounds.

Just need to get out and use it more.

The final piece of the jigsaw.

So far the joy the of an early 911 has extended beyond the experience of the drive, the whole joy of the car has been greatly enhanced by DDK.

Membership of this forum has enabled me to buy wisely, learn with or without asking questions and adds to the enjoyment of an early 911.

I wanted to post a few pictures and say thanks to an top class member of DDK, Mike 210 HP. Mike was invaluable in my search for right car and helped guide me towards an original example, rather than several others than looked good to my untrained eye.

It's incredible how details start to take over and ever since I started to try and bring the car back to a clean and original state, the fact that the Porsche badge was red (blissfully ignorant of this until DDK) rather than orange was an obvious flaw on a 1969 car.

I managed to catch up with Mike for a drive recently, to let him see the car and get his view on how the car performed. Its my first early car so its always valuable to have a experienced hand look and provide comment. All is good, so very pleased.

My car, courtesy of Mike, is now proudly displaying an original period orange enamel Porsche badge and has never looked any better.

I had the pleasure of driving Tom's car last week and it is a delight. Although he purchased sight unseen from photographs only (many) and from abroad it turned out a really nice buy once Tom sorted out the few body issues. Mechanical problems are always a constant issue and the fact that Tom got away with 'just' a gearbox rebuild isnt too bad. Mike's work will last for years as we all know his work is top notch.
The engine is sweet and the car is very original as we saw from the photos. Italian originally and most of its life in the sun apart from a spell in Northern Europe kept it pretty dry if a little crusty on all the rubbers (which Tom has replaced). Nice creamy light ivory paintwork which really sets the car off lovely.

Thanks for the drive Tom. You should go an explore the great early 911 driving experience as much as you can.

I have had the car out a lot last week, now the salt is on the roads its washed, dried and in its Carcoon.

Mike, I should have said when we met. I now have a tatty red bar Porsche badge surplus to requirements, the numbers on the back are 901 559 210 20. I will happy pass this over the next time we meet or can post it to you if you send me a PM.

I have been looking to get some really good pictures of my car. Last night (not the best weather - pissing down) I set off to Edinburgh to meet up with a amateur photographer Marty McKillop.

The idea was to try and get some shots with cobbled streets and some of the old town to show off the car.

We struck it lucky, the rain stopped and mostly people and cars stayed out the way.

We did not get long at the gates to the Castle (the army guards stationed in the Castle moved us on) ordinarily access is restricted but the security fences were open allowing us to drive straight up and on to the bridge over the moat.

911's can go anywhere are get away with it.
