As I´ve mentioned, I had no mechanical or welding/metal work-skills 4 years ago, the car is the product of hard work and determination.

Since I have learned lot´s on my journey I look at some of the early repairs with a grin and can´t really understand what I was *itching about while doing them - > It got worse and worse until it got better!

I have HUGE respect for all the sheet metal artists out there, the level of craftsmanship is unbelievable and I´ll be truly satisfied if I could ever get anywhere near that level. There are lot´s of things I would have done differently if I could turn back the tape, mostly doing stuff in different order and getting the car up on a rotisserie straight away( bought one but never put the car up on it). But this is also what I find charming, it can always be done better.

Since this is my first, I only look forward to the next restoration to improve my skills and knowledge.

But first things first, this car isn´t even finished yet.

Paint is delayed 2-3 weeks due to other projects in the way for the painter, good thing for me since there´s lot´s of details left to adress.

Finding 12 XZN bolts for the door hinges took a while but i found 12 fresh ones in my stash.

I decided to paint the inner fenders and wheel wells myself to save some time in the paint booth.




Visited my plater today and left the last few nuts and bolts, had to take a couple of pics of the stuff done






Just need to keep calm and carry on and I´ll might have a nice gulf blue christmas gift waiting for me.

Scraped the inner side of the bonnet, puh, the undercoating(!) in the middle was tar-like and impossible to get rid of! Will have to try some kind of paint-stripper on it!



Got everything back from the plater yesterday, what a joy!





Calipers



This stuff goes into storage for a couple of weeks until I get to reassemble!


My paint time has been delayed for 2-3 weeks which doesn´t really bother me since I have loads of small details to adress!

I´ll be back...

Been trying to keep the pace up to get the details right. Im happy the paint was moved forward in time since I wouldn´t have had a "paint ready" car this weekend.

Started lead work on left side door gaps, it´s time consuming but It will get there. I am aiming at 5mm gaps in bare metal



2 pairs of 4-screw horn grills left to the platers for rechroming, I didn´t buff them "perfect" since I wanted some patina shining through. I finally found enough nice XZN M8 screws for the door latches, soaked them in paint stripper and now they are ready.





I´ve collected some steelies, im aiming at one set 4,5" painted, one set 4,5" chromed and a pair of widened ones, will dig in to the widening process later on.



Sweden is cold at the moment, below zero, If I manage to get the temperature up to 17-18 degrees in the garage this weekend I will prime and spray schutz in the front luggage compartment and fenders/wheelwells.

Received my P/C kit for my spare engine which I will start to work on when the time is right..

Started assembling the front end.






Sorted some nuts and bolts..



Assembled the rear calipers with fresh pads, springs etc.



Found another pair of 4 screw horn grills in my garage, in copper and polished, ready for chrome.



Also received a better front bumper!



Cleaned up the luggage compartment.

Shot shutz in the trunk and front wheel wells!

Leaving the car to the painter tomorrow, hope the transporation there will work out nicely.

Thanks guys! I really hope the final result will be "good enough", since it is my first resto I´ve learned lot´s by doing stuff wrong 3 times before getting it right. Time consuming but good education! :D

Visited a friend who has restored lots and lots of nice earlies over the years, this is his track/rally built turbo in fresh paint. In the second pic you can spot his 914/6.





Can´t wait to get the car back!!!

The bodywork has started with filler and block sanding, looking good, just can´t wait to see the body in uniform color!

Bought a pair of Talbot Berlin´s, I´ll be using one for the drivers side. (Seller didn´t want to split the pair) Had to weld up and drill new holes for the mirror since the original(?) ones were drilled where the pass.side mirrors normally are located. The doors are from a US car which doesn´t make sense but anyway. I drilled new holes in the original location so I can go back to the large, original Durant if I´d like to. Hope I will be able to get a good view through the Talbot, if not I do have a Talbot Junior also.



Been working a bit more on the suspension, just waiting for rear brake pads and then I´ll be ready to mount all calipers.(Just havent had time do mount the front yet)





Also, left my "new" front bumper for media blasting since I spotted some rust on the backside, all good now!

Been helping out at the painters a bit, seam sealing and spraying schutz in the wheel wells and inner fenders etc.



Hope everything will work out with the paint code (6603 golfblau) the painter is going to chat with his rep. at PPG to find the correct mix for me. This is an amateur resto and more of a learning journey than pursuit for perfection (even if I aim to do it as good as I possibly can).
