That is a lot of money for a 912, looks well done although not sure about the interior or the incorrect front bumper.

It is an early car and if the miles are correct from new at 11K then it is rare in that repect!

In two minds the price is high but if all the details are correct how many 65 cars with 11K miles are there out there?

If it had only done 11K it wouldn't have needed an engine rebuild would it?!

And that interior is horrendous.

Someone is taking the p1ss on this one i think....

'eck - that interior is not my cup of tea

lots of incorrect parts on that car (later engine lid, S bumper, Fuchs etc etc)

would love to know what it ends up getting.

Interesting topic, can i jump in here for your thoughts on a car i have to decide what to do with.
I have a numbers matching 1966 3 gauge 912 (feb 66 build), the car came from the US and was supposed to be a driver but has major rust in the chassis / torsion bar area. So i have to make the call . Do i part it out now and look for another car or put the car away for awhile and rebuild it? As the prices are going up fast for 912's and it is extremely original and complete i would hate to have to part it , but is it really worth it at the end of the day?

This seems to be a good example of the way the prices are going.

A similar car to that near me sold last year for about the same money! I couldn't believe it as I had been to look at it and valued it at around £3k max!

The new owner said it was going to get the works, sadly a few months later it appeared for sale again at revival cars for a few grand less than he paid!

Sad really, but I think a few people get carried away with the romance of owning a RHD SWB car sometimes and don't work out the true costs first. :(

So does this mean that being RHD means its alot more valuable? Personally I thought LHD was an advantage since easier for parts and can always sell it to a foreign buyer.

It would seem so, although I always thought the 1969 lwb cars are the most desireable due to handling and hence commanding a price premium.

This is interesting - rhd swb - £5200 for a car needing a full restoration!

To be honest I think there are reasons for and against buying both a swb and lwb car, I like the LWB cars for the improved handling but equally some people love the looks of the earlier SWB cars. RHD is obviously going to command a slight premium in this country as some people seem to have a fear of driving on the wrong side and have to have a RHD! but personally I'd prefer a warm climate LHD import which generally are a lot less rusty. :|

That blue restored 912 at Simon Robinson's advertised for £23k sold by the way guys. I really liked the look of that car, I've done a few sums and it seems to me that it'd cost alot more to buy a car and restore it to the same condition, especially given those last few crazy ebay auction prices for resto candidates.

Just managed to get an agreed insurance valuation of £18,000 for my car.

Paul - depending upon the original condition of that car your statement is probably true, unless you did the work yourself.
