Finally finished the painting this week

, and despite having all my ER suspension parts ready to go on , realised I had neglected to refurb the suspension arms !!
A few hours with the wire brush , the bead blaster and the spray gun , and time to start trial fitting the suspension.
That's all for now!!

Looking good Mark
How does that elephant cross brace fit at the front - it looks like there's some sort of bracket down there - any chance of a pic or two? I'm thinking of putting one of those in mine at some stage

You are correct - ER suplly a couple of brackets and backing plates , which bolt through the 2 forwardmost holes for the wing securing bolts.
You simply take out the existing bolts , throw them away and bolt on the brackets.
Quite a neat solution , and provided the shell is solid in this area - it gives a good strong mounting point.

Thanks for that mark and thanks for the pics.

That's the bit I might have problems with - will have to tidy it up first I reckon. Looks a good solution though

I'm a bit surprised you did not go coilovers on the rear as well as the front?
It will look too good to drive when you are done!

I've had mine for a while now, but been using it a lot more on the track recently...my old car behind just can't keep up...

I did consider coilovers on the back too , but there are certain issues I believe in doing this to a SWB car. As I understand it , the openings to the shock towers are smaller , so there is insufficient diameter for a spring.
I think it can be done , either by opening out the shock towers , or building "upside down" struts with the springs at the bottom , but then you would probably have driveshaft conflicts too.
You're right about the driving aspect

- but hopefully , after the first outing in the rain - I'll forget about the hours I spent preparing the underside , and just give it a good thrashing !!!

Nice one Peter - though I do have certain so-called friends who would swear blind that I could fit into one of those

I've just realised it's been a while since an update , and progress seems slow at the moment - the weather has not been too helpful recently , and the small jobs always take at least 3 times as long as you expect
The problem with painting the whole shell is that as soon as you refit anything - it just looks plain wrong if it hasn't been blasted and painted or plated.
Anyway - heres a photo update :
Fit gearbox and dummy engine to work out plumbing / cables electrics etc.
Off the lift for the first time in months , and a good wash to remove accumulated debris
Front lights
Rear Lights
Refit steering column , and tidy dash
Fit oil pipes and cooler - thanks Highfield !!
6 and 4 pot brakes arrive at RS 911 - and I have to wait for 3 weeks until Arctic conditions abate sufficiently to allow me to call up with Mark to collect !!
I stand back and admire -
Car is now back on the lift to plumb in brakes and fit dual circuit master cylinder - watch this space .............

Looking great Mark!
The shop just finished making my handmade ST flares. I'll be sending my project to paint after I strip it down.
There are some pictures over here:

Thanks Chad - I have been following your build on the Early S Forum - I have it saved for reference when I attack the centre fill mods !!
BTW - I really like those Superlite wheels , they look more like the original Minilites , than current Minilites do
The current Minilites don't have much of a dish to them , which is what really makes a wide arch 911 to me , so I have just sent a pair of Fuchs to Biaggio , for widening to 10" , which will fill the arches nicely I think.

Looking good Mark, love the front braces. How is the engine coming along?

Thanks Brendan
Engine has not progressed much recently - most engine work will be cosmetic , and sorting the wiring loom - so I'll probanly get back onto it in a few weeks when I realise I need to put it in the car!!
In the meantime , I've fitted the coils -
Refurbed the pedal cluster with a bronze bearing kit - it was seized absolutely solid!!
Pedals and new dual circuit master cylinder are now fitted ...
