what year is the car? short stroke 2.5 litre engines did not come out from the factory until the 71MY - 69 and 70MY cars had the 85mm B&P's which gave 2.3. The longer 74mm crank of the 72MY did result in a 2.5 but it's a slightly different capacity from the short-stroke. anyone got Ludvigsen or similar book to hand to give exact cc?

also depends on whether you want Rally or endurance race spec as cams, MFI, carbs, exhaust, etc all differed.

Yeah, quiet for a while but other things keep you busy don't they?
Anyway, things are coming alive again.
In fairness the most difficult thing is simply getting to a rust free shell.
That stage consumes the most time and expense and yet doesn't make for very exciting news.
Early 911 have been busy of late and I think Nick the Chisel had grown a little despondant as the extent of the rust emerged but repairs will be back underway and we'll get there soon. Mr Moss and his team will do me proud, I'm sure of it.
Meanwhile I'm assembling parts and I'll try and post some more photos.
The engine is also being put together. I'll list the spec in another post.

Indeed. Nick the Chisel is away on holiday in the Carribean at the moment for a couple of weeks. It's the hurricane season out there, which guarantees that the weather is better than here in England .

We have now sourced an excellent rust free 72 shell that will provide all the difficult to shape or buy panels such as the chassis repair panels, parcel shelf and all the bits of inner wing that we need. This will allow us to get the car far more original as a 72 than we first thought.

Oh and, here's an update on those 9" x 15"s (and the 7" x 15"s).
They're being refinished to authentic RSR style.
On these wheels it didn't involve much maching as they were in excellent shape (no kerb rash).
Once rid of any scrapes they are polished. Here's how they looked:





Then the wheels are etched to get back to the 'unfinished' look of the racing rims. These aren't blasted but the exact method used is one of Nick's little trade secrets. What we're looking to do is replicate the untreated look of the alloy as comes out of the press. Only the outer rim will be polished. I think this satin/matt look is spot on for the original factory finish. The wheels are then anodised.
I'll post more shots once I've painted them.

Well this project has had quite a few major hick ups

Though i do believe most of you out there are experts or masters and should know trying to put other peoples work right takes that little bit longer .

And the biggest delay is, ive been waiting for a new CHESIL
