Thrashed the R car to Wiscombe great drive down , met Jonathon, nice guy, missed meeting our own Mr KS, sure he's a nice guy too...watched good motorsport including one scary bike moment but thankfully only damaged machinery, drove home , drank beer had BBQ. Excellent day.

PS it is sometimes sunny in Devon

Just took the daughters boyfriend home in the beastie.

His first ride in a Porsche.

He was white when I strapped him in the harnesses. Was whiter when we got to his house.

Quite a timid drive really compared to last night...

Now time for 1: Life On The Limit

I went out in my Targa today. First time I've had the roof off since I bought it. 21 degrees, blue skies, engine sounding great. Now I get what this Targa thing is really about. Looking forward to taking it to CLM.

Retrieved my 914 today from Crispin Manners's establishment in Newton Poppleford after 13 weeks. Well worth the wait. Main problem was that 12 years of storage with a half full load of fuel had not done any favours to the tank. The fuel pump became exceptionally noisy when trying to extract fuel through 12 years of gunge without the in tank filter nor an external one. All now cleaned out with additional fuel filter fitted. Lots of other work carried out - brakes, suspension, windscreen washers, fuel tank sender unit - the result is that I'm delighted with the end product.
Unfortunately, I had to return Crispin's Golden Goddess courtesy car - a Skoda of indeterminate age - "sans" reverse gear which made for interesting parking during my tenure.
Great trip back to South Devon later, despite the poor weather, learning how to drive a 914 again. Its been a long time but thanks to Crispin I now have a very useable 914.

I started to put back together the 2.4E we have in for a bare metal repaint, love this part of the job.



Then when I got home I started to reassemble the front suspension from my '89 3.2



Quite a productive day.

Didn't do it myself, but Andy at B D Engineering did this


It's the fourth time he's done it and wouldn't accept payment as he hadn't got it right previously even though that was due to a string of mechanical faults with cylinder heads outside of his control.
Can't recommend him highly enough.

Answered the door to the postman who gave me a box... Inside it was the ECU for El Chucho! And then get e-mail to say my rebuilt alternator will be delivered tomorrow. It's like Christmas everyday around here.

Took the 964 out for a little blat, dropped into my mate with a car restoration business which he bought for a song a few years ago. Today there was a magnificent pale blue Fazz 330 GT 2+2, a pucka Ferrari Daytona race car, Maserati 3500 GT and an Aston DB4 which they were in the process of completely repanelling.

Some very nice work going on there, little farm just outside Harpenden. Apparently famous for their Healey work, but moving fast into Ferrari in a big way. Proper craftsmen.

Drove the cab 80ish miles around the dales yesterday to make sure she's ready for the drive down to London on Thursday and then transport to Lisbon.
Everything seems to working just fine at the moment (fingers crossed).

Had an hour or so to mess with my 356 today. Discovered that inside the headlight bowls there is already a spare wire for a sidelight, but I need to run a separate earth to make it work. Ive also pulled the bulbs from the combined sidelight and insicator. All I need now is a pair of amber 21w 6v bulbs to go in the indicators, and at least the front of the car is MOT compliant. On the downside, I've found a small patch of rust behind the rhs front wheel. A small perforation that goes between the wheel well and into the door recess. Bah.

Still not tackled the funny tickover or the revs hanging up yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Afternoon off today , picked some parts up for Sladey and headed off to Mikes place in Kendal to meet him . Followed a lime green Mclaren MC12 up the M6 for a while , looked impressive but being driven sedately . Had half hour at Mikes then took a very scenic 100 mile route home . ...
