Great buy Darren, will give it exactly the right look! What are you thinking of for seats, another crucial aspect of your build I'd have thought?

Cheers Mike, I mentioned back on pages 16/17 that I purchased a set of 1974 Lollipops still in their original fabric from Paul Howells who had used these in his ST.......still undecided if I'll just use one for the driver with an RS type for the passenger or use the pair. Really nice original seats the will restore nicely....

A touch of déjà vu yesterday and a step back in time....
....and a return to Barry's old workshop.....with wider doors!

.....we did ponder the ethics of transporting the car during lockdown however although my hobby it is Barry's livelihood and without the car he's unable to work! Plus social distancing was maintained throughout the day....
....alas the trip leaves me with a dilemma and pondering the overall width of the front arches!
I've always been happy with the arches, the quality, look and fit are superb. Less so with the fibreglass bumpers which I feel are possibly a legacy of moulds made to work with turbo flares over the past 30 years and not quite correct, although these are fairly easy to correct and fit.....
....when fitting the front flares and armed with a few dimensions from original cars we trusted the metal and the outcome looks great....however since then I've had the opportunity to measure the overall width of a couple of original cars and wonder if we're not a touch too narrow?....
....having studied thousands of photos over the past two years I know the differences of all these cars vary and indeed some are on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th build so hard to compare. Also those who have built them tell me aesthetics is the primary concern......
I've searched for a good actual dimension reference source but unable to find one, if anyone can help in that respect I'd be grateful?
As we are the arches look good and Barry will see what he can to gain some extra width although that's not easy.....
......the decision will be to accept our outcome as being in line with tolerances of an original build or cut the bloody things off and go again!.....at this stage I do hope not!
Cheers,

The shell is looking superb Darren. I was looking at some 3.0 RS pictures a while back and there are all sorts of areas where the cars differ as you say so you can rest assured that authenticity isn't an exact science in this case. From an aesthetic point, I think the arches look superb and better than some of the originals. Can't wait to see it in paint!!
When it is all done, and you are driving up the Grimsel Pass with the freshly painted arches covered in stone chips ...... you won't care.

Spectacular updates, as always - thanks a lot Darren!
Can you point out the differences between the two ali crossmembers (obviously the RS bit is tougher), and which models carried them. The difference is total news to me.
Thanks
Jan
