Re: 911 2.2E restoration
Glad your safe and sound Mick.
The aluminium arms do not fit my car, the shock towers on 70 and 71 shells are small and the lower mounting point of the shock is quite a bit further back on the aluminium arms so I have an issue with the top of the shock rubbing the tower. This isn't an issue with later shells.
Kind regards.

In the book Porsche 911 performance: building the ultimate porsche for high perfomance street or road racing, the author (Rossi) explaines how you can fit the swingarm with a relative simple modification to the swingarm. And now I'll rest my case for alu swingarms.johnM wrote:Glad your safe and sound Mick.

Re: 911 2.2E restoration

Wonderful progress John, all looks great.
What's with the Conn Rods in the background, I thought your engine had already been rebuilt?
Really looking forward to seeing the car again, will be one of the best

Hi Darren
Photo taken at Mr Bainbridges so not my con rods. Although I think would be great in a 2.5 twin plug.
Kind regards.

Re: 911 2.2E restoration
My gearbox was stripped to install the ZF limited slip diff. When Mike Bainbridge stripped the box we found a few componants worn so we decided to replace 1st and reverse slider which are very expensive 1st and reverse dog and two synchro bands.
This is the 1st / reverse slider

This is the dog and 1st gear. (thats wax you can see)

This is 1st gear dog fitted and a new synchro band fitted.

All the parts stripped and cleaned.

Gear sets built up.

And assembled onto the sandwidge plate.

Mike also had to do a full diff set as we were fitting the new LSD. Really looking forward to seeing how the LSD works.
A big thanks to Mike for all his fine work.
Kind Regards

Looks like that will be silky smooth! Envious about the LSD too!

Re: 911 2.2E restoration
On to the head liner. I have had a good look through the threads on here and also had a chat to James Harwood.
The liner had a few creases in from being folded up for so long, so we laid it out on the bed and warmed the affected areas up with a hair drier and then laid some books on it, this improved things quite a bit.
I had fitted new foam on the top of the roof so next up was fitment of the stays, these slid through channels in the liner.

Working from the back we marked on the back of the liner where we needed to glue.

We glued the rear of the liner in place.

Stretched the liner forward and mark where to glue again

Warmed the liner with a hair drier and then streched it into place.

Next we worked the areas around the A and B pillar stretching the liner as we went along.

So that’s one side done just the other to do, we are quite pleased with the outcome considering its our first attempt.

Nice work John and Mrs JohnM
Never tried this before, but from what I have read it looks very tricky!!
What glue did you use? contact adhesive?
Cheers
Chris

Re: 911 2.2E restoration
It wasn’t too bad if you just take your time.
I used high temp contact adhesive from frost http://www.frost.co.uk/frost-branded-pr ... litre.html
Chris I was up at Mikes yesterday but the only car I could take a template off had its oil tank in so no good. Just thinking Richards car is engine-less so he could easily make a template up.
Kind Regards

What LSD did you install?
ZF original plated or a Kazz?
My 915 is coming out soon for a 2nd gear refresh and thinking of an LSD at the same time.
Graham.

What am I thinking, senior moment. Richards is a 2.2 as well so how about Darren's car it's at Barry's at the mo his is a 73 car so should be correct for you. I am sure Barry will make a template.jury wrote:johnM wrote:
