Thanks Neil, I must take the time to watch that, especially as George was a friend of my Dad.
In the mean time, any suggestions to the best way to fix this ??

Your stem has come off the crown and is still in the watch. Needs the stem removing and seeing if it still reusable.

Or get the George Daniels book.

I successfully repaired such a breakage on a ropey old Datejust using tools off ebay. And I'm no engineer. There was just a little button to press in to release the stem, pop in a new stem, screw the crown back on, away you go. YMMV.
