Wiring. Love it...

I can see why many people leave the harness in place!

Nearly ready for extraction now the fuse box is all labelled up.

The loom is the only job I have left to do on mine. It's been sitting in the corner of the garage in a box since Rich helped me pull it out of the car. That wasn't easy so I imagine putting it back will be hell. What Rich doesn't know yet is he's flying down here for a weekend to help me fit it! I hope he remembers where it all went

Now the car has gone it gives me the entire garage floor to lay it out on. From there I plan to unravel it, clean it and test it. In a sick kind of way I'm looking forward to it, but that's me saying that now before I start

My attempts a loom removal ended up with blood all over my face and three stitches.

It was a bit tight in the tunnel, then it wasn’t! Top of head straight into the underside of the rear quarter, both sharp and rusty.

Anyway I’ll put a hat on tomorrow and carry on

As you have I printed large colour prints of the wiring diagram and had them laminated. Just studying it for a short while with the loom as reference everything seemed to fall into place and it all became a lot less scary.

I've shed my share of blood over the car too and I'd put good money on the fact that most others on here have too. All part of the fun - Hope it heals quickly

It is all fairly logical. What confuses me is why some circuits on my car work just fine when there is only a wire to one side of the fuse...

The worst thing about this head wound is the massive sanitary towel the Dr stuck on it, it’s really not that bad!

Good progress over the last few days!
When I converted my LHD to RHD I used the LHD loom. I had to lengthen every dash wire by 1000mm and keep the circuit working.
I think that is where my indicators got 'lost' and I've never got them working correctly since....
Hate car electrics.

Head looks sore Gary.

There are links between some of the fuse board connections hence only one wire. The links are hard wired on the back of the board so not obvious from the front. They are shown on the wiring diagram. HTH.

Thanks John, I took a photo yesterday for reference but guess I didn’t look closely!

Well three stitches and multiple bruises later it’s out. I’ll be making some subtle mods to the rear seat pan before it goes back in as that up and over the torsion bar is a fight I don’t want to have again!

I’ve left a rope down the tunnel that will remain to pull it back.

Doesn’t look much but that’s one of the most stubborn b’stard parts of a car I’ve ever had the displeasure to work on.

Finally started cutting tonight!





And found exactly what I expected. After some thinking about just trying to replace the rear panel I decided this would be more work and a poor job so I’ve started on making a robust jig to tie the back end together and hold the complete (backdated) new xmbr in the right place.

It bolts up under the bumper mounts, picks up on the engine mounts and will also pick up on the latch mounting surface, although I’ve timed out on sociable grinding hours for today.

Got to admire your bravery and skills Gary, but will look great when finished.

You can see why so many wiring looms that come up for sale on eBay have 'chocolate block' connections in the middle ( previous owners struggling to remove the looms and cutting them in half to get them out ).

As for the fuse board - I painted the positions of the links on the front of mine as a simple future reference.

Bravery is close to stupidity.

I have so many pictures of Barrie’s restorations saved that they are ingrained in my head. Unfortunately the skills aren’t!
