Here we have an extremely rare and original 1966 Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute reference 809.

The Breitling Cosmonaute will always hold a sacred place in history.....

On May 24th 1962, Scott Carpenter, an astronaut for NASA on the Mercury-Atlas 7 mission orbited the Earth three times aboard the Aurora 7 capsule.

Recognizing that his tasks in space would involve timekeeping, and having been introduced to the Breitling Navitimer as a trusted watch used by his fellow test pilots and associates in the Air Force, Carpenter approached Breitling to produce a modified version of the timepiece for his orbital flight.

The astronaut suggested Breitling keep the Navitimer's unique circular slide rule for making flight calculations but replace its tachymeter dial with a 24-hour display.

The watch only arrived with him 3 days before lift-off but on his wrist when he went into space in 1962 was a unique Breitling Navitimer with a 24-hour graduation dial – a vital necessity in being able to distinguish day from night and for astronauts to 'say what they read' .

And so the Breitling Cosmonaute became the first chronograph wristwatch to ever be worn in space and orbit the earth.

Pretty in Pink....ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual with box and booklets

I recently had two watches serviced so spoke to lots of people for information.

I used to use Stephen Burrage but he is retiring. However it appears that he is still doing work for Terry at http://tcawatchrepairs.co.uk/ I sent my son's quantz driver which needed a battery change (I tried to do but failed). The watch came back with the second hand sorted and the movement oiled too. I'm guessing that Steve did the work at the back end but either way nice service.

The other watch was quite a bit older. A 1945 Chronograph. The seller advertised as chronograph function in need service maybe repair. Here I was a bit more worried that parts might be needed. In the end I found http://www.peterrobertswatches.com/. It appears that he actually is quite a well regarded watch marker! He and his son are building the repair business Within 1 day I got a time and cost estimate. Thank goodness only a spring on the chrono needed repairing. True to his word the watch arrived 3 weeks later. I've been wearing now for the last 3 days and it keeps very good time. I would highly recommend him. He certainly wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive.

Hopefully this is of use to other DDKers.

i need someone who I can send my wife's quartz Omega Seamaster to to get the battery changed , not a big thing but seals do need to be OK as she often swims with it.
i took it to our local Omega dealer in Cork who sent it off to Omega - came back saying that the bracelet also needs replacing and they would not do the battery work without doing this too- estimate EUR 800! [Watch cost around that in Dubai about 12 years ago]
Absolutely no problem with bracelet so we said "no thanks" and got watch back.
Where can I send it to get battery and seals done properly at sensible money?

For €800, I'd insit that she goes au natural , without the watch in the sea I mean.
