The differences just make it all the more interesting!
In your searches Darren, have you found out how the factory made the first runs, did they tool them or hand fabricate, hence the differences in the arch 'radii'?
Must be paint soon or surface rust will get a hold?

....not exactly sure Graham although expect pretty much the same as now.....the arches were available as a part so hand fitted in the race department....if they did actually use the RSR arch available from the parts department they would of course have modified these for the short wing as Barry has done and hence the variances. Who knows for sure?......
.....ultimately it's difficult to know what's original on race cars approaching 50 years old......as I've mentioned before I suspect on some renovated genuine cars the shape has been exaggerate, some have been restored awfully and nothing like their original self and a few have had completely new bodyshells.....lots of dodgy reference sources if you're not careful however there's enough early reference photos to gauge how the cars would have looked and I'm very happy with the arches Marek supplied and the overall look of my shell
.....as for paint, it can't come soon enough for me but will be a while yet.....the phosphate coating has done ok for the past year and in its dry dehumidified storage it'll be fine for a while yet.
Cheers,

The sexiest element of any early 911 build started for me today when I delivered the heart of this car to my engine builder....who incidentally wishes to remain anonymous......
....the original engine, largely disassembled over 30 years ago and supplied with an accompanying bin of parts, is a complete unknown to me and I'm tentatively hopeful that my good fortune continues and the core is sound and useable however the aluminium block with six-bolt flywheel does lend itself perfectly to the build being a natural progression of the earlier 3.0 RS/RSR engines........the specification will very much be that of a 3.0RSR and visually, at least from the topside, will look just as it should

....
....before and after photos should be pretty impressive .....
Fingers crossed!
Cheers,

It's good to have friends and I have to give another big shout out to Marek Lappock (early911parts) who sent me this in the post today

.....
....when discussing flares and bumpers I mentioned that the front bumper I had lacked a bit of detail....
....the correct RS bumper is quite distinctive around the underside of the corners which turns outwards into a kind of winglet....
....my original bumper is great quality but lacks shape in this area....
....although perfect on the bumper Marek supplied which I'm reliably informed is used by all the big German restorers....
...old....
....and new...
...the shape is also very distinctive from the rear and highlights how much sharper the new one is...
....with any of these race parts there is always going to be a fair degree of fettling to get them perfect and no doubt that'll be the same with this new bumper but easier from a good base....
....this thread seems to be becoming all about shapes and curves......but nothing wrong with that imo

.....
....a few weeks and we should have a finished shell ready for paint.
Cheers,
