Is below prep work for Harness mounts ? I guess a fixing plate is welded on the backside of the parcel shelf, which then pops through the hole for the EYE to thread onto ?

That's right Chris….I'm using the correct Porsche fixing mounts although rather than having one tucked in the corner, as was the practice, I'm doubling up, moving them centrally and having twin tailed harnesses…….although Dave (stretch) did his utmost to persuade me to do it the 'right' way with a single tail he did produce some awesome REPA harnesses for me …

I think they're for the oil tank 'breather' pipes, so no oil should actually flow through them and hence a right angle is not a problem. I had to make and replace the same on my restoration - bit more 'agricultural' in their manufacture than Barry's , but they seem to work!

Smashing detail and beautifully executed, but it is the bloody door gaps that get me!

Maybe one day I could do it that good, but great to see and very nice forward thinking and execution.

Exact repro of the rotton originals: nasty right angle kink and all. There is sod-all room between the inner wing (where these go through), and the outer, so perhaps some of the design was down to limited space. I'm sure Porsche would have much preferred a single bend, as it would cost a fraction of fabricating from two parts, jigging them and then manually welding them together.

Awesome is the only word for it.

Well it's been a while but like all wily old Mongrel's this mutt finally found its way home on Tuesday…..

…..fair to say though that after approaching nearly 700 hours of Barry's time, the old dog has well and truly bit me in the arse!…

Still, the Mongrel's a looker now….



The trip to East Sussex in gale force winds and torrential rain didn't bode well for collecting a bare metal shell on an open trailer!….all I could do was use extra layers of cling film and hope for the best…





…by the time for the customary Barry goodbye the wind had died and rain subsided and the shell was loaded onto trailer in the dry….



…and I headed home in glorious sunshine for the 3 hour drive home..

.…the last 20 miles was a worry as I headed towards a blackening sky that was getting darker by the minute but managed to get the trailer safely into the worked minutes before the heavens opened!…what can I say, 'born lucky!' …

Good stuff Darren, bet it took a while to get all that tape off!

Unwrapped the next day, the shell looked so good it was hard to remember just how bad it once was…..











…although Barry had provided a couple of memento's to serve as a reminder…

The shell has undergone MAJOR remedial work…















….as well as a few modifications…..
