Murray Steel Buildings

I contacted Murray Steel Buildings when I was looking to purchase a 7x12m portal-frame building a couple of years ago. They seemed quite professional - supplied the quotes and drawings I requested, and answered follow-up questions promptly. Ultimately I went with another supplier, mainly due to logistical reasons more than anything.

I received quotes from several companies (this was during covid time, prices were changing daily) - it quickly became apparent that none of them (including Murray I believe) actually manufacture or stock anything. All the components of the building kits (frames and cladding) were manufactured by Steadmans in Carlisle. The drawings and specs I received from those that quoted me were also all from a third-party design/engineering company based in Ayrshire. The doors and other extras are also supplied direct from the chosen manufacturer.

In short, the choice of supplier came down to price/construction logistics/reputation rather than the building kit itself.

I was very happy with the quality from Steadman. In the end, due to delays, my wife and I put the building up ourselves with only a mini digger and a mobile scaffold tower. It was easy.

You’ve more or less echoed our sentiments and findings.
They’re all just agents…
What I also found is that there appear to be some charlatans out there too!
The boss of Murray appears to have once been involved with one of the firms that now supply their portal frames.
My only real stumbling block is whether to let them erect it whilst I work or to do it myself..

I bought my 25m x 10m framework from a company that I used when I worked, manufactured to my design, then they recommended an erector, who was brilliant, I used Kingspan for the insulated cladding and had a local guy fit it all, unfortunately we fell out right at the end because the concrete floor screeder couldn't produce a flat floor.

Stupidly I hadn't included a mezzanine floor originally so when I decided I needed one I had to get the erectors back in--more expense.

I was thinking that shed or garage is hardly appropriate. Warehouse seems a better name. Very nice setup!
