How desirable is the 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI ?

Essentially then it's £100k for just a 2.7 MFI motor as they rest of the car is massively questionable as to what it is or was and is so valueless.

The motor is questionable too as the number has been altered.

I struggle to know what to do with a car like this now. 10 years ago when it would have been £10k you’d just bop about in it for what it is, but that doesn’t work at £100k. It doesn’t really work at £30k.

I guess in great condition with matching numbers it would be a nice chance to own a piece of history - like owning an antique chess set. Contrast it with the new car you get for the same money and the old one is much more unique and has a story to tell.

I think this is most likely a stolen 1974 Carrera RS 2.7 worth around £200,000 (or £0 if you possess it and are not the owner).

The claimed VIN is 911 2500 537 and here's a pic:



But that VIN is for a 1972 911T, which this is clearly not. Additionally, correct me if I'm wrong but I think 1972 VINs were spaced like: 911 2 500537

Then last digit of the engine number looks to my eye to have been filed off:



I have advised the vendor who sounds legit.

According to the Bruce Anderson Book 911 = the type, 2 = 1972, 5 = Carburettors, 0 = Coupe, 0537 is the sequential serial. So the chassis number, assuming it's correct, is for a '72 long hood, which matches with the K reg. Obviously, the VIN/reg at doesn't match the 911/83 2.7 MFi engine, which dates from '74 with an engine number that starts 664034?. Then there is the whole body thing. Caveat emptor - could be a very expensive mistake.

I love a 2.7 in a longhood, great power to weight and light feel. But yes rediscovering if this body is a longhood is questionable, and there's a good chance it's a blank 7R case with an optimistic stamp. You can get a 911T with a 2.7 by mix and matching parts in good condition for less.

The stamped VIN number does not look at all correct, nothing like the one on my 72 "S"
