Well, things have been a bit slow due to PCGB not receiving my order
for a letter of origin and certificate of authenticity. At long last they
arrived last week.
This is from the LoO
"The production date of this vehicle was September 1974. The model year of the vehicle is 1975.
The vehicle is to C16 UK Specification. The vehicle is Right-had drive. The vehicle was subsequently delivered to
Porsche Cars Great Britain. The vehicles original colour was Fiesta Orange."
I was under the impression that 914's were all LHD from the factory. Does anybody know if it was possible
to order a RHD car from PCGB?
I must admit I'm very chuffed that it says it's RHD though!
Cheers.

Hi Andy,
I have an advert from July 1971 for Malaya Garage in Billinghurst Sussex who, as far as I know, were the only dealer to advertise the right hand drive conversion which were all done through Crayfords. In the advert they state they are they are sole concessionaires for this option through Everest Garages also of Billinghurst, part of Malaya Garage. As far as I know most if not all of the converted cars were destined for countries where it was not allowed to put an LHD car on the road at that time, such as Hong Kong and Australia. Malaya did run a demonstrator so that may well have stayed in the UK, that was the car tested in the July 24th issue of Motor magazine.
So I suspect if that was on option you wanted at the time them Porsche would have directed you to Malaya. Incidentally the cost of the conversion in 1971 was £630!!
Hope that helps.

Thanks Steve, that's very interesting.
My car was first registered in Singapore in September 1975.
I'm trying to find out who the first owner was as DVLA seem
to think it was previously registered in the UK. I spoke to the
DVLA help line, who were very helpful, and they are looking
through their records to see if they can find the original UK
registration number. If they can and it's not currently
assigned to another vehicle I should be able to have it back.

Might be a fantastic swerve of the BIVA process Andy, as makes it somewhat original and you can provide documentation to support!!!!

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with DVLA regarding the car's history because they have stopped issuing V888 forms which allowed owners to look into the past history of their cars. This is all part of the impending new regs.

Andy I have a print out of the road test for MPX114J by Ian Fraser July 1971 and explains details of the RHD Crayford conversion which ties in with what Steve found.
