The brakes have been stripped back ready for painting.

Tom, weren't they originally anodised? Also they do come apart very easily into their four sections to redo the pistons.

Yes they were originally anodised. I am having them done in matt black caliper paint. The pistons I have been refurbished and haven't seen much use and have been advised not to separate them with the feral on the brake pipes.

The only issue was really cosmetically they were poor.

Loving the look of this Tom, nice find.

Can someone please advise on the correct finish for the following items:

1. Upper cam covers



2. Fan housing

Pretty sure it should be a Chromate finish.

So the following is planned; cam covers to be restored, fan, fan housing all aluminum chromate finish. Numerous pipes to be replaced, lots just perished with age on account of the car not being driven and stored badly for a period of its life. Brakes are getting sprayed, intercooler and airbox off to the paintshop to get rubbed down and coated. Some new tin wear and the rest powder coated. Engine shroud will be cleaned of oil and years of dirt once the manifold is off. The aim is to have the engine looking very good, fresh but not overly restored, just detailed and cared for. The rear shocks will be coming off and sprayed to look like new.

looking like it will be another of ur great cars Tom ...........got a bit of a shock this week when i had the 2 fat rubber oil pipes ,RHS engine ,changed on my '86 turbo.................price of rubber must be going nuts on the commodities markets !
if ur un any doubt they re not cheap !

That lump looks familiar........have a similer one that looked like that but now in a million bits...lol

I hope you haven't jumped the queue at Mikes. You know it's all fame and glory, fix the bloody race car drivers engine, never mind that other guy! Things never change.

Quick picture received from the bodyshop. Hoping these turn out well, went for a mat black caliper paint.

I really enjoy the smaller things that take no skill, just a bit of care and attention.







All in great condition, just dirty and slight mould on parts.

Cleaned and then a light dye followed by some leather conditioner. Already looks a lot better.

While the engine is out, I have the air box off getting straightened and painted. Minor bumps from being badly handled over the years. The intercooler was also scraped and could do with a refresh. I know some will be turning away in , but I do like things looking original and fresh.

I collected the brakes after they have been treated to a matt finish caliper paint, I think this replicates the anodised finish pretty well without going to the trouble of stripping them completely.

Delighted with these, new bolts are sitting ready to go in. I really like the design.
