tp_reading wrote:I must confess that this is something I have been mulling over for a while. Mine has a 2.4T, short stroke , with S head and cams. It was raced in the USA with the original 2ltr four pot with much success. The current engine is very "cammy", and since I am aiming to compete in sprints and hillclimbs I think I might swop. Also if I ever want an FIA-HTP an original 4 or 6 would be essential.
Try it as it is for a few sprints and hillclimbs, then see if you need to change anything. Actual competition driving is totally different to being on the road or track day.
Our 914/6 has a 2.4 also, but on E cams, and puts out around 165bhp. I have done several hillclimbs in it in the last two or three years, and it ran very well, for what is very much a nice road car.
The Mohair 914/6 used to run a 2 litre S spec engine, probably producing the same sort of power, but a lot more cammy - nothing below 5000....... but the sound from the Webers between 5500 and 7300 was fabulous!

Ian MacMath's 914/6 Hillclimb and Sprint car was virtually untouchable in its day, whether in its early 2 litre form in P4 of the Speed Championship, or later with a 2.7 in P2.
Ask him how quickly two competitive drivers can push it up Loton Park....................... :bounce:

I remember Ian getting the class record at Loton; it was a high 58 I think, with a 2.7 on carbs pushing out 190 ish bhp. I am pretty sure was on slicks.

He was as sick as a dog that day and looked like death, and drove it like he had stolen it

I am sure he will be along to correct me if I am wrong.
