What an awesome car - one on my list too

The feeling of Buying abroad is a special one - I flew out to Leipzig in March to buy a motorhome and had the same experience - I can't speak german, seller spoke little english but we got by - his face when i Paid him in cash was a picture though :D

Its a great experience buying abroad - plus the drive home is always an interesting one :D

The car was waiting for me in the yard at John Price's.
I hadn't seen it for nearly 3 weeks and even then I'd only seen it for a couple of hours.

It looked absolutely bloody brilliant in the sunshine. Just as I had remembered it in Dresden. It felt a bit surreal that the car was actually mine as it had felt odd to buy something and immediately leave it behind. John and Steve had taped the German plates on as they didn't want to permanently fix them prior to UK registration.








God, it looked good. Definitely the right decision

"Steve, it looks brilliant. Have you had a chance to look over the car? How is it? Is it all OK?" I asked with a sense of apprehension

"It's good." said Steve, motioning me towards a hot cup of tea and a seat. "And bad..."

Just back from Vie en Bleu at Prescott...



my first outing in the car and a fantastic weekend. Practice in the wet made for some interesting issues with turbo lag and grip in general. Car failed scrutineering (belts terminating at a single eyelet) but some sweet talking of the chief scrutineer saw me through with a warning. My times weren't exactly stellar but it was always meant to be a bit of a test bed...and it's highlighted a few things I need to address. My driving mainly..

Anyway, back to the riveting story.
We pick up the action at John Price's as Steve runs through the "good and bad" of my car...

Steve has a handwritten A4 sheet which he slides across the table.

"Well there are only 13 things on that list, that's not so bad." I quip.
"And 13, eh? Unlikely for some, ha ha." I joke.



Steve turns the page over. Oh



Not quite the "spark plugs and the quick refresh" I had hoped for...

"And what about the good?" I ask, expectantly.

Well it's got a really good paint job.

All good stuff, I have to say when a list like that is produced a sinking feeling comes over you.

Equally, it passes quickly because you know it will be right once its all done.

That's very true!
However, I've found that if you order parts for your project one bit at a time, before you know it you appear to have a completely new car with seemingly minimal financial outlay. Even better, have everything delivered to work to that you can sneak them home when the coast is clear...

Darren's brown T2 is fantastic...totally original and in fabulous condition.
The car will be at Tatton Park Classic Car Show this weekend for all you Northern types...

Haven't seen Evo but I presume it's the article on Darren's brown T2? Lovely car, that one.
I actually sold mine a few months back…it was a great car and I had a blast but ultimately it was a car without a purpose…other than showing off (and there's nothing wrong with that it has to be said!)…as I wasn't prepared to invest into competing with it and that's really what it was set up to do.

I think Stefan's photos made it a pretty easy sale to be honest. Sold within a week. For cash!

That was one of the cars, the best car featured was a stunning ex rally / comp car. Same colour scheme as yours.

I have had a look at the full set of pictures on Flickr, great shots. Looked to be a very raw and brutal car in the pictures.

on BAT at the moment - something as little more understated

Congratulations, great purchase! I had one for a few years back in about 1990, a standard Turbo 1 (you can just make out the John Price sticker in the rear window). Took some concentration through twisties with massive lag and was twitchy in the wet, but had such character. My heart always skips a beat when i see one. Green face. Envy
