In the meantime the brakes and suspension were removed and taken over to Eric at PMB for his guys to start work. In their word "Jos has definitely led a charmed life. We're beginning the suspension restoration this week. Everything was in amazing shape again. This car is very surprising. The only issue we're finding is worn bushings which have caused the suspension to collapse a bit wearing on the stock torsion bars. Those will need to be replaced. Original (as in, the ones they installed at the factory in 1970) Boge/Sachs inserts were still in the struts!" I was feeling very blessed when I heard this.
Im looking forward to seeing these when they are restored.....
After a chat with Troy we decided to do the job properly and remove the underseal from the floorpan as well. This gave the guys an opportunity to build a porsche size rotisserie.
We also decided to do the engine bay so the engine was removed as well
First time I have seen this properly, not looking too shabby, a few dents from badly placed jacks! Note to self...
….original too judging by the centre tunnel rubber grommets……hope they've saved those, very hard to source those and always a nice finishing touch on a good restoration.
Finally got the car back from the blasters it had been so cold everything was freezing up. Troy was very happy just need to repair rust holes in right front fender, and rear mount.
Needs a new panel to be welded
All in all very happy with how solid the car is and how little rust has been found.
Thanks Darren, theres the small matter of getting it home but I have been looking into flights today to start planning the drive from Utah to LA! That should be fun...
Thanks Bootsy, I am excited about driving it in the US not least because it will be left hand drive as intended! Also it will be possible to drive through Vegas, Zion National park, even a detour to the Hoover dam? I've no idea how to insure it or register so have started a thread in the general section. Hopefully someone else has had the same problem.
