DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

This afternoon I had a bit of time... I took the dremel out and attacked the tired rear black emblem.


No longer black - as said above, a bit of bling is always nice!

Despite my car being a post-73, I hope you will enjoy an update on the last bits done, starting with new tailored carpet in the boot


and in the rest of the cabin of course, all out of black deep pile.
The safety belts I spent so much time cleaning look just as new! I will need to spend some time detailing the quarter inner trim and then the rear will be well sorted I think. The original soundproofing is still in excellent shape.


We then replaced the broken rear window latch

with a brand new genuine part courtesy of Roger Bray


And finally the mess of old Clifford and Toad alarms was removed, basically going from this

This is therefore my offering to the "church of the lightweight"


Apart from the red overspray, only one of the two horns was functional, so a newer unit went in


The end is very very near!

The rear arches have been stripped, stonechip-proofed and repainted.
All oil lines and tank have been repainted in black, while the engine will get a good clean later on during service.





And now for the part that horrifies some on here...

Exterior. Ice Green 266 looks almost silver indoors, and then glows bright green in the sunlight.
Few adjustments to the engine lid position and we should be good to go...





Interior. Almost complete, few adjustments necessary to fit a Nardi wheel in a post-'73 car (thank you Andy)


I am very happy I decided not to have it backdated. I much look forward to driving it in a week!

The last picture was taken at SVP in Droitwich, where the car was delivered back yesterday after the last round of body work activities. Doesn't your steering wheel look good in there!
I was wrapping up invoices today and had a bit of a jolt - it took twice the initial amount quoted to get there (and four times the time). Very expensive exercise to save one of these!

Including what I spent on seats retrim and Fuchs refurbishment, the total is at the very top of the market value for one of these cars. And yet, now I have a mint 911 with less than 63K miles on the clock, with brand new P6000 tyres and springtime is coming

It looks well worth it though, very nice indeed.

And after all the effort & expense, enjoying it on the road is something to look forward to, for sure!

The value will catch up with the restoration cost pretty soon. Looking forward to seeing it on the Slovenia trip (?)

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I am so close to the finish line now and I wonder if it was at all worth the time and the hassle... by the way Nick - don't you think "your" fuchs look good too?
I am not sure I'll be able to be in Slovenia sadly. I've been travelling lots on very unstable business, very difficult to commit to that plan so I haven't. I hope to be able to parachute myself in if I find the right window....
