John, any further thoughts? Mike thinks 68 door handles, Bruce thinks 69 front wings, Sam thinks factory prototype ducktail, Andy is sure its another barn find S in Scotland. How would so many rare RHD S models find their way to Scotland? It's bizarre!

69 Ss were on 15x6s weren't they? And Es were 14x5.5?

Those front seats look like they might be a whole bag of awesome.

Ahem? I was first with the '68 door handles and '69 quarter lights

I have seen '68 door handles on very early '69 119xxxxx cars that were manufactured around the model year refresh / august / september time. (my old 68MY L had '67 door handles where she was made in July / August '67).

The door card basket weave is a give away - 1969. Matches the dash basket weave (pattern, not colour )

I'm going with 1969 E but registered in 1968.

But what's been used to cover the seats? Elmo?

The dash top does not have the separate speaker grill. It has holes punched in the top of the vinyl covering in a diamond pattern. Does that help?

I'm going for 69S model but 68 build.

Nice find, looks like its going to need quite a bit of buffing though!

Anyway, back to the story.



Where's the engine? I asked.  'In the shed' came the rely.
And the rest of the interior? Hoping the original front seats might be somewhere.  'Oh, that's in the pig sty' came the reply. 
We went to the pig sty and found the bonnet (no badge) and the original red front seats under a tarpaulin. The seats looked to have a velour type material on them but they were complete but very musty. Not good I thought.
The engine in the shed was on a bench. Looked complete from exhaust to stacks and apparently had had a rebuild at some point. There was a load of parts in a bakers bread tray and the gearbox on a shelf. It was all very grimy, covered in dust and had not seen any work for a good number of years. 
It took ages to wipe up the engine to try to figure out the all important numbers.

God, even I'm excited and I know what happens next ...

Didn't the handles with the button shield end with the trigger handles for '70 (MY)?
'69 'E' & 'S' got 6" Fuchs but the T was left with 5.5"?

This is worse than having your dad read you a bed time story as a kid and he only reads a couple of pages a night.....

So it's a very early 69 (I too thought 68 and 69 door handles were the same) the question is : what's going to make it a 'special' car?

I suspect it's not ever been a competition car, so I'm guessing it's either the first of something (first RHD MFI car?) or it's a known car, like a press car.

Is it VUW911G - E Sporto ?

Basket weave dash panel was "s" in '68 but all models in '69.
Does it has the rear window vents or the heated rear screen?

Hmm.... That vinyl roof cover isn't covering a leaky sunroof is it?

Definitely something significant historically & definitely an early '69 model.

I'll opt for the first RHD 2.0E manufactured - possibly the first 2.0E of any kind ?

Might even have been the earliest RHD lwb 911 built ?

It's not very fair to compare me to your dad Jonathan. I am just a young fella as you know ( the grey hair is premature I assure you) trying to tell the story as quick as I can but a full on working day today for me till 5 then driving to Lancashire so I hope you have patience
