Not at all Bert, I've been away all week on a training course and have been getting cabin fever in the hotel at night. Having re-read my recent posts I thought I was coming across that I was going to be on beans and toast for the next few months which isn't the case and I wanted to explain that.

I'm safely back at home now and will be going to the garage tomorrow afternoon to see where we are up to and watch and learn, screw things on, etc.

Cheers

Ha Ha!!!!!! I'd forgotten about that. For the benefit of everyone else, I did beans on toast for lunch when Gary was investigating my popping and farting carbs this time last year.

stop putting beans in your carbs and they'll stop farting

I looked at them, realised they were Zeniths and said 'they all do that' Then we ate beans :)

PMSL. That pretty much summed it up. They broke your airflow meter first though. Zeniths  Who'd have them?

Well I've been at the garage and been shown a few more interesting things found in the engine:

We had one very early style rocker. I think these are forged, not cast like the later ones and so they don't break if you buzz the engine unlike the later ones which are designed to break. Early is on left, later is on right. Was replaced for a later one.

A slight crack in this. Replaced for a new one:

Incorrect wear on this, probably due to misalignment. Replaced and alignment set.

The garage have cracked on the last few days without me and have fitted the B&P's, heads, cam towers and cams. The engine was timed yesterday and I've spent this afternoon fitting the shroud, alternator, tinwear, exhaust, EFI, electrics, dizzy and spark plug leads. I would have liked to have done more techincal mechanical stuff instead of fitting ancilliaries but the choice was that the garage could do more and it was finished this weekend or I do more and I'd get it back next year. Timescales thus dictated the garage to JFDI. I can always assist Tim on his 2.4Eish engine build when I want oil under my fingernails. I have a really nice kettle to make a fast cuppa and am good with beans on toast...

midway this afternoon:

When I left tonight:

The plan is to fit the engine back in the car tomorrow afternoon and hopefully start it up then. Worst case is that we crank it up on Sunday morning.

At the minute I feel like a child on xmas eve. The anticipation and expectation is quite high. I'll have to have a glass or two of something medecinal, preferably Islay.

More tomorrow.

Too right, I thought it would be a case of meandering through it, perhaps seeing it run for Easter.

Curious about the rocker: I wonder why that had been changed (i.e. I didn't have to find an alternative, and so it must have been on the engine at the time. I can't have noticed, as I had a whole second engine to rob had I realised).

Good luck with the re-start, and the first drive. Mind you, the first drive is always a bit nervy. I think it's nicer in a few months when everything has settled back in, you know it's all O.K., and you can start to stretch it's legs :) .

If it goes back in today it will have been out and rebuilt in a fortnight. It would have been faster if I wasn't involved  .

Cheers

Is that a Turbo Thomas silencer?
If you will, who made it please?

Graham.

Yes, its a Turbo Thomas shown on Rich's website and described in detail here http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... s&start=15

I still like it but having re-read the above thread the only thing that strikes me is that my garage tested the volume at revs up to 6K as I had a 6200 redline on the SC rev counter that was in last year wheras I have an E engine and can rev a bit more than 6200. I have an early tacho in it now but it still has a T redline. Anyone got a spare E tacho they want to swap?

Hi James.

Get some red electrical tape and cut into a thin strip and stick onto glass. Perfectly good enough until you can lay your hands on an E tacho.

Ian.
