Having missed out on CLM this year, and had the recent enjoyment of travelling to Spa, I would be interested

Sounds like fun (dates permitting)
Sarah and I visit Europe at least 2 or 3 times a year for one event, tour or rally or another (often not far from the Alps or the Pyrenees) . In our humble experience then definitely best to avoid the classic European summer holiday period if planning to go to the Alps. Late May, June (or early July) or Sept/Oct allow you to enjoy the roads in reasonable weather without sitting in ridiculously slow holiday traffic. Once the travelling houses hit the roads in the peak holiday times it quite frankly takes away any enjoyment from the great driving roads.

before everyone gets too excited ..... for the 1st trip it won't be the Alps.

Things are still up in the air slightly, but if this does come to fruition it will be a long weekend organised in conjunction with a company that is experienced in these tours. I don't have the time or inclination to organise one fully myself.

It is more than likely going to be based in Northern Europe.

It will be made as cost effect as possible.

Once Classic LeMans is out of the way we can start thinking in more detail to see if a DDK Euro tour for a large group of cars is going to be realistic :)

if the 1st event goes well .... then I'm sure a trip to the alps will happen . Problem is organising that many cars over that kind of distance.

The Alps are a long way .... going with a couple of cars like I did last year is great fun ..... trying to get 20 + cars there is going to be hardwork.

As a lot of DDK'ers havn't really done any kind of european touring, thought it would be easier to keep the distances more realistic :)

There are some good roads in Northern Germany ;)

BUT .... nothing has been decided, nothing yet organised either ....... if people would prefer an Alpine trip we could look into this :).

As said earlier, once CLM is over with, things can be looked at in more detail :)

I agree with you James - having never done any real distance in one go in my car before, there's a nervousness about (me) being overambitious in a 40 year old car that I don't even have any spanners (yet) to be in any way self-sufficient on a long trip.....!

Having said that I'm looking forward to some great roads too!

Maybe we should take a support vehicle with tools and spare parts?

What's up with you 911 guys? Cars too fragile or decrepit?
Based on my observations and experience so far 914's will go pretty much as far as you want and usually at maximum throttle!
That said, I'm still interested in a Euro tour next year.

Oooh, now I'm interested: can that be me: can it, can it, please? I might get to try my DDK sponsored overalls then (too hot at CLM :) ).

James

I seem to be on Continental Car Tous mailing list - could be a good option as I am sure they would organise something tailored to the region to be visited
