i am up for a 356 meet - although the old pre 73 event at Beaulieu a few yrs ago was a good little meet ( and a really good laugh , eh bootsy ? )

to answer a couple of querys-

the exhaust outlest are in 2 pieces which are adjustable - i had the final pieces made at an exhaust specialist and i welded them to the original small bore 'tailpipes' which i modified a bit .

my 1720 is better than a 75, but mainly torque etc- hard to really compare as it has 45 dellortos, electronic ignition and some other tweeks . it runs pretty cool but i have not really pushed it yet - and it has an external oil cooler under the N/S front wing to help when it warms up.

tyres are Avon 185/70 15 - very soft grippy compound used in historic race classes
wheels are tecno magnesia - hard to find and expensive .

i think that is about it ?

indeed it was, one of those hangovers that I've never forgot! I was struggling that day. How is Mr Fawdry? Haven't caught up with him in a few years.

(well, unless something tragic unfolded overnight) - he seemed well (if not a little damp) yesterday @wheels day.

i think he is starting to work on his 356 again, so i guess it shouldnt be too long before it hits the streets.

I've looked at this several times in the last few days and it has definitely grown on me, I love the interior and the flat paint is a nice change from all the concours jobs

Just checked out your car and you certainly have guts to paint it suede. It is seen a lot in the States on rods and customs but it looks really good for the UK, nice one buddy. And wooo is it slammed or wot, careful of those sleeping plods. Did you get to Wheels day? It rained, it sucked. Spent 2 and one half hours just sitting in my truck drinking beer with some buddies, then went home. Such a shame when every body has been working hard getting their cars done, at least the Surrey Rodders got some cash for their charity. Really hope to see your car in the flesh, I'm only a few miles from you and am regular into Guildford Harley.

Since when was six months a long time for a restoration, it takes me that long to get the damn things in the door! It looks rather good and with its low stance it kind of looks like a pre A with the upper sections of tyre covered by the front wheel arches.

see what I mean, I like the colour combination and texture very much but is the gear lever a bit of a stretch, and what car was this, its not the one we chatted about at castle Heddingham is it?? Bill.

no this isnt the hedingham car - i sold that to a friend and it is currently getting a very different treatment to the usual 356 route . suffice to say it will make mine look like a stocker in the stance department!

i think 6 months is a long time for a resto, but it wasnt too bad to start with, and i am used to vw restorations as well !

i still have your rack here too ... so i will post it this week - was intending to see you @ the volksworld show - but things have been a little on top @ home .

Steve - i passed your place yesterday, but was on a flyer- will pop in soon as i am off to see a rhd C in the area in a week or so .

igna- i did make wheels day, almost bought a food lightning pick up
but i nipped off as the rain kicked in - made for an interesting drive along the hogs back
i am not far from the harley shop - give me a shout when you are in the hood, if i am about i'll pop down in the car.

but i have heard about a car in the barnsley area - but i am sure that is a karmann hardtop -if that is the one you are thinking of?

always up for an unfinished car if you know of one available ? i fancy doing a stock restoration next , so any information on potential base cars is more than welcome

are you taking it to stamford hall, wouldnt mind a nose around it

I may take it up there - I know owen is going in his so it wouldnt be alone
