If he's viewing it during banking hours then you can call the branch that he drew the draught from and they can confirm that it is genuine. I've done this before.

Ok no problems here. There are "swift" transfers that can be on your account within 30 minutes from any european location.

We are not talking trust funds in the blooming caymans (or isle of wight for that matter) but a joe bloggs high street bank. *edit* this is also the case between english bank branches, say a transfer from Natwest Brum to HSBC in Aberdeen

Course of action:
1. inform buyer that he needs to come during normal bank opening hours. 2. Give him in advance your IBAN and SWIFT codes.
3. Ask buyer to contact his bank for the cost and the procedure for an "emergency swift transfer" (typically about £40 for an amount of say £15.000).
4. Make sure the seller ticks the option that "all costs will be his" as some european banks get commision for coverting euros into sterling etc.
5. Make sure a fax machine or a post office with a fax machine is at hand so that if the seller likes the car, he can send a confirmation fax to his bank as they want the go -ahead in writing
6. Go for a pub lunch and after 30 mins the monies *will* be on your/ the vendors account. Walk into your branch and check the amount.

See your car off.

Sor'ed guv!

I was not sure about bankers drafts so i ask for cash and check the notes with my pen..

I have just sold our BMW and we got cash, too many people you see on the telly saying they sold the car and then the bankers draft is duff.. and they lose car and money...

I worked for a bank for a decade, and Mrs Swapped still works for one, and I know what to look for, how to check authenticity...

And you will not catch me taking a banker's draft (or, for that matter, an IOU written in eyebrow pencil on a piece of rice-paper) in exchange for any item of my property without ringing the bank and checking.
