If only I had one of them. Car is in the garage at the moment getting a few engine niggles sorted. If the engine needs alot done i may be tempted into commissioning these guys to build me one.

Bad news: c/g is about 18" higher. Feels like it's going to come around and slap you. And it does. :)
Bit like a Beetle or a Type 3 then Howard !! I managed to spin them both when I was young and stupid - the youngness has worn off now.

Interesting stuff on V8 installations. As one of our colonial cousins can you explain what is meant by 'small block' ? Is it something to do with internal capacity or is it external physical dimensions ?

Yes :) Almost everything you wanted to know here:

A 1954 design that has passed the test of time. Still in production today. The biggest change from prior design was the extremely light valve train that allowed hot rodders to run this engine to 9,000 and above, with pushrods. 265" to 400". You convert :)

The big blocks came in in the 60's during the Great American Horsepower Race. Brute force, but the Ford version stuffed in the GT40 turned it into a winner at LM. But it sounded like a truck compared to the Ford 289.

The small block shriek at 7500rpm is music. Rates #4 on my scale.
1: RR Merlin
2: Carrera GT (and modern GP cars)
3: Colombo V12 250/330
4: SBC

And watch that Colonial stuff. The way things are going, we may be coming back.....
