I second Shoestring's question although it could be a 64th present very soon!
Robust, not too fancy, manual wind a must, prefer sub £200

While I'm in love with the Enicar Jim Clark Sherpa, I need a practical, functional and simple watch.
I love Braun's approach to product design, so it had to be a Dieter Rams Braun watch.
I have a few, but this is my favourite and most worn watch.

Hi
I always thought Elysee watches were very smart and very reasonable price for an everyday watch. Around €350

I think they have been recommended on here before.

It's neither really as its all original Omega SM300 parts with an original Omega SM300 60's movement. I suppose the equivalent may be some of the restos you see where just about everything on the finished car is new parts from Porsche...just not at a nut and bolt Porsche resto price!Tosh wrote:I like that Jason.

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
Speedmaster repair advise please?
I’ve got an Omega Speedmaster Co-axial which I bought some 5-8 years ago, I don’t remember the model but it’s one of those with date and see through case back.
It still keeps the time well but both push buttons has lost action, both buttons spring back as they should but are missing the mechanical engagement when pushed in.
Any recommendation of a trustworthy independent for where I could send it? I don’t want to end up spending a fortune with the official Omega channel on repairing this, as it’s a function I never use and I'd then rather spend the money on another watch.
Cheers

I/others use Stephen Burrage : Ryte Time 01162677673. Great chap. However, I've only sent older watches to him and the co axial movements are not trival. I'm not saying he can't do them but I haven't sent that type of movement to him.911SE wrote:Speedmaster repair advise please?

They are a fiddly movement to work on and require some specialist knowledge and even special oil to service them

Meanwhile at the other end of the spectrum to this thread's norm I've just bought a very simple Timex mechanical wind-up watch, just the thing I was after!

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
I remember when 5000 people were employed in Dundee making Timex watches, clocks and the ill fated Nimslo 3D camera.
As usual, the Unions got stroopy and the UK factory closed.
They are now American owned, but I think Seagull make the movements of their mechanical watches in China ?
They also make really nice watch straps
