Is that elaborate arrangement due to noise, mitigated by the extra mufflers in the headers Andy?

I'm sure Keith will have the answer.

I think it was an experimental set-up only used during practice for the 1960 Sebring 12 hours - abandoned for the race itself.

The combination of extended-length headers plus added silencers obviously created a lot of extra weight hanging off the cyl heads - hence the need for some additional support ...

The car is a works 2-litre Carrera which ran in the Targa Florio - photo was taken by Denis Jenkinson who borrowed it for a test drive. From what I have been led to believe, as the exhaust system had been designed for use with the mid-engined 550, it was too long for the 356, hence the bracing.

Bravo Keith, thanks

Seemed a bit odd they would be bothered by noise back then…..
