Just a thought...couldn't you make a Dynamat hat that covers your ears instead? You'd use less material and have less weight in the car too with ultimately the same desired effect. Push the boundaries LMR!

Ha! It would have saved, materials, cash, weight and a few hours of my life!! I would have needed two hats as I do carry the odd passenger. But if I stuck with only my hat, I wouldn't be able to hear them scream!!

As with every job I do on this car, I spent some time contemplating the best course of action. I could have left a painted surface, attempted to replicate the original bitumen finish, or fit the modern equivalent. I went with dynamat as I think it was the best balanced solution between functionality, durability and cost.

I haven't decided what to do with the firewall yet. My rubber pad is in pretty decent condition, but is blooming heavy versus the dynamat.

Yes, but my tyres will be so skinny there be very little rolling resistance!

Lots going on in my world which is keeping me out of the workshop. Normal service will resume soon.

I have popped in this weekend, and put the fan back together. The horrible corroded bits have been cleaned up and plated, the perished rubbers replaced by neoprene (thanks Chief), and I bought a new motor to replace the intermittent original.



So, plating, new bits, and some cleaning later, I now have another part finished and protected by bubble wrap ready for refitting.

I like the trick of using small circlips to hold the heater housing together.
Where did you get the new motor from.

Thank you for noticing the little touches. In all honesty, I would have reused the existing clips, but they were pretty rusty, and I find there is something satisfying about using new parts, particularly when they function better. Circlips are so much easier to fit and remove versus the original part.

I took the part number from the original motor, and found 3 or 4 sources which suggested it has been superceded. The replacement part number is Bosch 0130 007 002. I found them listed on both Amazon and fleabay, £50 to £55.

The non original clips displease me, but your salvation is in lining them up to follow the seam

I did have the clips facing away from each other, but went back and realigned them. I know no one will ever see them, but........!!

Real life is getting in the way of sorting my 914. Each of my other vehicles has spat its dummy in the last couple of months, my camper being particularly difficult, albeit sorted now (after many weeks to get the rear axle rebuilt...). And a couple of work trips to Canada, which have been enjoyable but getting in the way!

Anyway, there has been a little bit of progress. The starter motor and alternator have been rebuilt



I covered the strip down of the alternator on page 16 - quite a transformation.

I am also fiddling with sub assemblies. I am currently stripping the rubbers / fuzzies from the doors. Which is dull, tedious but necessary.



And I did have a visitor last week, details elsewhere on the forum.

So, a little while since my last update. I am clearly a masochist, I only hang out in the workshop when the temperature is below 10 degrees!!

Lots of events have been distracting me (Le Mans, Silverstone Classic etc). I have also been helping some friends with various projects.

But the real reason for why seems like a period of inactivity is I have waiting for my bodywork man to be free. He has been busy rebuilding a 911 body, which was an epic adventure.

My car is slowly becoming lovely, shiny bare metal. All the Olympic blue is pretty much gone. A number of the panels are currently being stripped, and I should be picking those up next Friday. I will publish some photos as work progresses (and I work out an alternative to photo bucket).

Hi folks

Quick update today. Friday I collected my panels from envirostrip. The great news is after getting them back to bare metal there were no unexpected surprises - no fill, no holes, all is good I have had them coated in an epoxy product which will hopefully ensure no future rust.



Dropping them at the workshop revealed some more shiny metal
